If Keanu Reeves wasn't in this
would it have been as hyped???? Would they have put more focus on the game, to make it less buggy????

from what I've heard/seen , looks like most the games budget went to the actor... which is kinda funny TBH.

nope. Lots of reddit people hopped on the hype bandwagon due to keanu reeves. Especially since he was really prominent before and even more so after due to his various memes and good natured attitude in public. Having keanu reeves boosted game sales by the thousands

Good move from the Studio here
CP2077 would have been terrible with Vin Diesel as your sidekick

Yes it would have - people seem to have a short memory - people were already super pumped for CP well before anyone knew about Keanu

Also the current iteration of the story most likely came about in 2016, 2 years before Keanu came aboard. So his influence on the story most likely was minor. Sure they probably gave him a few more lines, and maybe some lines might have been changed, but the changes to the story overall would probably be ultimately meaningless.

Youve "heard" this being echoed by trolls. No one knows what he got paid, but either way he got paid as a "voice actor" not as a "leading movie role", so its not the mega-millions that people are pretending outrage about.

And like people said, he came on late in the process. Reeves is an old-school cyberpunk fan (to the extent that he actually spoke against his own movie (Johhny Memonic) because they edited it into something that did not match the book or the filming) and I doubt he gouged them for this thing he actively wanted to do. The dude gives away insane amounts of money - for all that people may not like his acting, he legitimately (as in hes been doing it for many years) seems like a good person. Hes also given up part of his own salary in the past so that (movie) projects could spend the money on other things.

(After all the screaming about Reeves by the troll army I decided to read up on him.)

This might make people that did not like the character more upset, put he was "in" for the role.
the Canadian actor enjoyed his Cyberpunk 2077 character Johnny Silverhand so much he actually pushed to get his 'screen time' doubled

How much do you think voice work pays? Even when you add mocap work and likeness rights into the mix I highly doubt it comes anywhere close to what he'd be paid for a starring movie role.

I digress, the notion that this game would have somehow been better due to the inclusion (or absence) of a single celebrity is ludicrous. The canvas for the game was already laid out, the mechanics and core of everything would not have changed if Reeves was there or not. The deadlines, the crunch, the mismanagement would have all still been there brewing behind the scenes.

JS was the worst thing about the game. His obnoxious and unrelentingly negative attitude annoyed the heck out of me. I never understood what he was upset about, what his "philosophy of life" really was, beyond being a right royal PITA.

That makes sense.

For what its worth i lore-posted a bunch of stuff from the original RPG here:

It wont make you like him more, but its a bunch of "missing stuff" as to who/what he was.

A few posts in also has some spoilers from the original Arasaka tower run and the USG's role in it.

Sometimes I feel like Keanu is just reading the lines, and not acting to put some life into his character.

Personally I greatly enjoyed this game.
And while I don't care much either way for Keanu Reeve, I liked his performance in the game!
So.. all good here! :)

That's kind of the point of him. He's full of s**t and somewhere along the line several characters call his bluff on it and he then has to confront the realities of why he did what he did. In certain endings it's also quite clear that his character has gone through a formidable arc to a newfound humility.

I like Keeanu, but IMO this game would have been a lot better off without him. Honestly the whole Johnny Silverhands thing is just stupid, and I can't help but think the only reason the game ended up going in this direction is that he offered extra time.
Direwulf Aug 23, 2021 @ 7:21am
lol! When I played the game, I was really confused about the whole story.
It's just about getting at Arasaka and Johnny Silverhand is just damn bittter bout it.
I feel the story could have been written better. But having Keanu Reeves is just brilliant.

Keanu reeves is a overrated 1 dimensional actor and cdpr wasted money hiring him when they should have been fixing the game. Instead they decided to hire keanu and rewrite the story for him making Johny a central character and ruining the game. Keanu is a washed up has been that lucked his way into a few key roles early in his career but has no talent for acting beyond a single character type. The only reason he is not a D-list actor is his PR agents have crafted a careful good-guy image for him that is all an act.

I think they should have been more forthcoming with the history to make sense out of the long backstory for sure. Theres a huge amount of corporate warfare that lead to the US govt getting involved, and thats what lead to the nuke etc...

Not liking an actor is pretty normal, your fictitious tirade is not.

Arent you someone that thinks Nicolas Cage is a "good actor" though? Speaking of strange acting careers and uneven performances lol.
