CP2077 would have been terrible with Vin Diesel as your sidekick
Youve "heard" this being echoed by trolls. No one knows what he got paid, but either way he got paid as a "voice actor" not as a "leading movie role", so its not the mega-millions that people are pretending outrage about.
And like people said, he came on late in the process. Reeves is an old-school cyberpunk fan (to the extent that he actually spoke against his own movie (Johhny Memonic) because they edited it into something that did not match the book or the filming) and I doubt he gouged them for this thing he actively wanted to do. The dude gives away insane amounts of money - for all that people may not like his acting, he legitimately (as in hes been doing it for many years) seems like a good person. Hes also given up part of his own salary in the past so that (movie) projects could spend the money on other things.
(After all the screaming about Reeves by the troll army I decided to read up on him.)
This might make people that did not like the character more upset, put he was "in" for the role.
How much do you think voice work pays? Even when you add mocap work and likeness rights into the mix I highly doubt it comes anywhere close to what he'd be paid for a starring movie role.
I digress, the notion that this game would have somehow been better due to the inclusion (or absence) of a single celebrity is ludicrous. The canvas for the game was already laid out, the mechanics and core of everything would not have changed if Reeves was there or not. The deadlines, the crunch, the mismanagement would have all still been there brewing behind the scenes.
That makes sense.
For what its worth i lore-posted a bunch of stuff from the original RPG here:

It wont make you like him more, but its a bunch of "missing stuff" as to who/what he was.
A few posts in also has some spoilers from the original Arasaka tower run and the USG's role in it.
And while I don't care much either way for Keanu Reeve, I liked his performance in the game!
So.. all good here! :)
It's just about getting at Arasaka and Johnny Silverhand is just damn bittter bout it.
I feel the story could have been written better. But having Keanu Reeves is just brilliant.
I think they should have been more forthcoming with the history to make sense out of the long backstory for sure. Theres a huge amount of corporate warfare that lead to the US govt getting involved, and thats what lead to the nuke etc...
Not liking an actor is pretty normal, your fictitious tirade is not.
Arent you someone that thinks Nicolas Cage is a "good actor" though? Speaking of strange acting careers and uneven performances lol.
