Even now compared to my older video that I recorded, the AI has already learned a great deal more to the point where all of my games look a great deal more photorealistic then they normally would.
Reflections? Sure it's disappointing, but it wouldn't be the first disappointment that I've experienced with this game and it's company, and I'm sure that it won't be the last.
But yeah like the guy before said, this sucks but not the main reason I'm upset with the game.
Oh wait, I have witnessed the exact same thing happen before[gamerant.com]!
Okay seriously, sarcasm aside this “graphical downgrade” accusation is literally a 1 to 1 repeat of the Spiderman PS4 “Puddlegate” controversy a few years back that was directly debunked by Insomniac Games (the devs).
The developers changing or removing a few puddles on the ground does not constitute a “graphical downgrade”. If you have any objections with this, you are welcome to email Insomniac Games directly.
If you really like your puddles and reflections, you are free to install a weather mod that makes the game always rainy and wet. That way you can always have your SSR/RT puddles on the road and whatnot.
Everyone wins.
Not everyone uses or even trusts mods, so saying to use a mod doesn't really address the elephant in the room; CDPR removed said content from the game. It doesn't matter why, though obvious - performance, it's still a removal of something that apparently lots of players enjoyed.
The 2018 Demo is significantly less vibrant and employs a much blander color palette than the Retail version resulting in a washed out, almost bleached image.
Additionally the metallic surfaces of the cars in the 2018 Demo are noticeably less reflective and lustrous (compared to the Retail cut) than what one would expect from a futuristic car.
The concrete roads in the 2018 Demo also lack the scattering of sunlight present in the Retail cut.
Distant shadows (like the skyscrapers) are almost entirely absent in the 2018 Demo which makes depth perception pretty difficult while the Retail cut features distant shadows.
I could go on but what you are essentially seeing is a romanticized view of the 2018 Demo. If you look at it through a purely neutral lens, you will see the retail cut improves visual quality significantly over the demo.
Like I said, I don’t get to make the calls because it ain’t my game and it will never be.
I’m just saying that this exact situation has happened before a few years back and was debunked directly by the devs of that game. You can view their Tweet here.
You are free to disagree with their assessment. However the onus of proof is on you now to show directly, incontrovertibly and without a shadow of a doubt that it is a graphical downgrade.
Only difference is that you’re not squaring up with a random nobody on the internet like me. You’re up against one of the leading AAA studios who have published several critically and fan acclaimed games in recent years and past.
The game on PC still looks stunning. This game doesn't pull a "here's a slick trailer" and then the game looks like a potato like every ubisoft game. I'd say I got what I purchased judging by the screen shots and trailers.
Bugs aside, it looks gorgeous.
Yet again I find myself reminding people - THE CONSOLE VERSION OF THE GAME AND THE PC VERSION OF THE GAME ARE TWO UNIQUE BUILDS OF THE GAME. Nothing done to the PC version is done because of console. It is it's own version.
Which is why it makes no sense to that on PC - just make it an option in the settings lol...
People denying we lost wet roads aside, coz we did
I played the game again (put it back down again too but that's another topic) and had some rain
Sure enough the roads no longer get wet, aside from a couple puddles here and there
These puddles were already here before, they are meant to show damaged roads, on top of the wet effect
But right now they show alone
I've checked various surfaces all around, and sure enough, some surfaces like the sidewalk, concrete slabs, various metallic walkways, still get the original wet effect
And then i noticed, two concrete surfaces right next to each others but with just a different color, one gets wet, the other is still dry
My conclusion is that they actually messed up some materials while reworking SSR, and some of them now have broken properties
Asphalt is the most obvious one
That'd mean it's another bug introduces by 1.3, it's annoying, but it should get fixed as opposed to a deliberate downgrade
edit - that also means mods won't fix it unless they also rework materials, and right now i'm fairly sure none of them do
