How good are smart guns?
How do smart guns compare to other guns and could you do a build only using them?

lol, that's point, they are designed for people without training

Thats the point to them. Its not "half assed" in that they are built for people that dont want to train much, and are intended to be closer to (and marketed as) dummy-proof. (Look at the in-game ads...)

So they will never be as good as a dedicated rifleman with a Grad, but are still super effective without really needing to use much in the way of training to get there (perks etc).

Exactly.

They won't lock on to some enemies, tyger claws I think... there might be a handful of other enemies that are immune to the lock-on. But generally speaking they are a very effective, albeit lazy, way to kill people. Even people hiding behind cover is swiftly dealt with if you just adjust your trajectory a tiny bit to let the bullets travel further.

Not sure about dedicating an entire build to them though... sounds like it could bite you in the ass at some point.

My favorite by a long shot :D: is the "Divided we stand" smart assault rifle, with a crafting build allowing you to upgrade it (and any other crafting spec weapon) all the way to level 50.

I was wondering, are you using the free implant you got from Wakako Okada or another smartlink and is'nt she infact tyger claw? I havent accepted the gift ever because I suspected this.

Out of the three types of guns, Power, Tech, and Smart.

Power is so-so, basic guns. They can rebound off walls but realistically that's a gimmick you probably won't ever use.

Tech Weapons are pretty good as they can straight up shoot through walls or, with perks, ignore all Armor completely.

Smart Weapons have no perks outside of the SMG/Rifle/Shotgun Perks EXCEPT for the 1 perk from the Engineering Tree that let's you reload them faster. Some of them like Divided We Stand (The unique / iconic Smart Assault Rifle you get from a shooting contest in Arroyo) and the Arasaka Smart Shingen V SMG from the quest "Gimme Danger" are pretty good. There's also a Unique Smart Shotgun but unfortunately it's only available after you beat the game.

I think the reason behind that is the whole "Smart Link" Cyberware the Tiger Claws use scrambles Smart Link for YOUR Smart Guns, likewise if you have Smart Link they have a much harder time hitting you with their Smart Guns (unless you stand still), basic moving with the Smart Link lets you practically dodge all their bullets effortlessly.

They are useless. Maby good if you are playing with controller.

They can be a beast. I use them on my hacker just because it feels right RP wise, but wont use them on other characters because it really is easy mode, well except for Tyger Claws.

A lot of the smart weapons you find, especially early on are just junk. Break them down or sell them.

The Ashura is a smart sniper rifle you can get very early on it the game (too early tbh). After the rifle locks on, wait a second and it will switch from aiming at the body to aiming at the head. You can pretty easily take out decent sized groups of enemies at a distance since it's usually "one shot, one kill". If you really want this one and don't mind spoilers you might want to look it up. After you leave the area where it is, you cant get back unless there's been a change lately.

Divided We Stand can be pretty OP. I just threw mods in it for extra damage once I made it legendary and it mows through people pretty quickly. I actually got it this playthrough by double jumping up to a roof where the NPCs couldn't go and using Ashura to head shot everyone.

I also like the Genjiroh smart pistol. This one seems to get overlooked a lot. It's located in a house that can be hard to get into without using double jump or trying to launch a vehicle over one of the walls. I haven't picked it up this playthrough, but if it hasn't changed, then it fires 4 rounds per shot, has a larger magazine size than other pistols, has increased bullet speed and can supposedly target up to 6 enemies (I never noticed tbh since they die so fast). I actually like it more than Skippy.

Unfortunately if you don't craft, then picking up iconic weapons at too low of a level can suck since they will be weak later on.

aimbot/autohit percentage script by any other name.
hax in other games.
a vanilla asset in this game.
i sht you not but lol anyway..

yeah, theyre great. increase the damage and crit hits and any smart weapon in the game is really cool to use for fun/roleplay.
way too many pistols in this game. i prefer rifles. smart rifles and the smart smgs are hot.
I think Tech weapons are closer to hacks, you can shoot through walls, smart guns, at least you can see bullets flying behind corner, and you can miss target, hit obstacle if it is not used well, there is mechanic that protects NPCs from smart guns etc.

They should have integrated smart guns more with hacking and stealth. Like use the ping hack and then you can target someone thru a wall and wallbang or curv around a corner. And have guns that are more for silent take down rather than spray. So big single shot DMG from Stealth.

It doesnt matter. All weapons in this game are the same.

On a playthrough with a Netrunner (1.2 btw) i used the Shingen to get rid of Oda. That poor guy never had a chance. I got the Shingen at level 20, so it dealt more than enough damage to get the job done. I also used it for those moments where i messed up. Never used the Ashura, even though i had it. So yes, you can use smart guns. Just don't use them against the Tyger Claws and you'll be fine. And you want the Legendary Smartlink from Victor to make good use of those smart guns.

Yea i agree

If anything the game needed more tech along these lines, thematically it's absolutely fitting

Oda's a pushover
By the time you get to him he's already outscaled, so he has damage penalty against you, and you get damage bonus
His mantis blades are also bugged and scale down to 1 damage vs armor extremely fast

Only "danger" are his projectiles which are bugged the other way around and ignore armor entirely

It is really satisfying to lock on, aim up above your target, and get ten headshots in a row.

The smart sniper rifle is a great way to take on large groups. You can just jump and run and dodge at the outskirts of an encounter without having to worry about aiming.

It’s significantly safer when fighting enemies with civilians mixed in. Fewer errant shots.

They are great weapons for applying bleeds, burns etc.

As mentioned, there are some enemies that can block the smart tracking. But you are probably going to invest in pistols or rifles anyways. It’s good to keep a non-smart weapon handy. Grenades work too!

The smart pistols are great for their giant mags.

They also work great with the legendary short circuit quickhack.

Overall, they offer some neat tactical fronts that are fun and effective.
Tigerclaws have the augment that blocks locking on so it isn't really a bug. Which I find neat that NPC augments like that can affect combat. It isn't just unique to you.

I find smart weapons to be decent, but not fantastic. They're situational at best and even in those situations I find myself just pulling out a tech weapon and charge blasting right through whatever barrier is in the way. Smart weapons seem to be a bit weaker per hit as well but hey, spray and pray right? I wouldn't go out of my way to either seek out or build around using them.

Amazing, like ridiculously good. And no because some Tyger Claws and Oda are immune to their tracking.
