Why hard rock and hardcore metal is considered "cyberpunk" music by Devs?
I mean, this genres of music sound super fitting in games like Doom Eternal where you play as a badass hero who wades through hordes of monsters, hellspawns, bosses. It's a fast paced game and metal music really helps to bring right immersion. But here in Cyberpunk it sounds so off when you ride across that futuristic city and listen to Samurai or some other no-name metal band.

Why majority of music ingame is this and not something like techno/electro music which would be way more fitting?

i would suggest to read about Cyberpunk lore, the way Mike Pondsmith envisioned it. There is a mixture of all genres in game and background music is not rock/metal. Matter of taste, I'm fine with balance of genres in this game. if all would be techno, I would mute it at some point.

Cyberpunk is a kind of 'retro-futurism', in that the popularised aesthetic of cyberpunk emerged out of the 80s, which explains why the music and imagery references metal, punk, hardcore etc.

Techno and electro came out of the 90s, and have no spiritual connection to cyberpunk at all. That said, electonica and the various 'wave' genres *are* spiritually connected to cyberpunk, and there is a lot of this kind of music in the game as well.

In my opinion, I felt about 90% of the music seemed appropriate for the game, with a few tracks feeling a little too like contemporary pop music.

Yeah but almost 80-85% of stations that you can hear to in your car are rock or metal lol. Rest of them are some kind of pop, punk etc.

agreed. some people aren't good at identifying music genres :) it can be confusing for non music people there's allot fo genres. allot of people just throw anything with a electric guitar into rock and metal.

literally all battle themes and background music is electronic as well :P

How awesome would it have been though if the game's soundtrack/radio stations were NiN, KMFDM, Sister Machine Guns, Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie, etc? Probably would have been way too expensive, but *shrugs*

Hard hitting drum and base is traditionally very appropriate for high intensity situations like combat. So it makes sense there's a focus on this sound.

In two words : Licensing hell.
Not only did they need to pad out the soundtrack with non-DMCA triggering music for streamers and content creators in general, but they might have to remove certain tracks later, because licenses ran out. Just look at how much of GTA San Andreas and IV's soundtracks were butchered with "patches" because the licensing lapsed.

Pure rock used to be dominant in it's early days but started dying somewhere in the 90's. It . One the reasons why rock didn't survive because it was a genre that didn't evolve. As Pop Music begin to enter the scene, and hip hop becoming more and more commercial, rock on the other hand stayed somewhat stagnant.

There are so many reasons why the scene faded out and it's too many too list. Rock lost it's identity, it's appeal faded away, streaming became a thing. You can point out all kinds things. Rock just couldn't survive in the new era.

Because deleting people with miniature weapons of mass destruction is metal as hell.

I felt that majority of the radio music was some hiphop or other "black" music. I wish there was much more synthwave in radio.

What exactly do you want to point out here? That because rock is dead its fitting for dying world of CP?
