Techno and electro came out of the 90s, and have no spiritual connection to cyberpunk at all. That said, electonica and the various 'wave' genres *are* spiritually connected to cyberpunk, and there is a lot of this kind of music in the game as well.
In my opinion, I felt about 90% of the music seemed appropriate for the game, with a few tracks feeling a little too like contemporary pop music.
Guess dif people see cyberpunk atmosphere differently haha.
Except they're not...

agreed. some people aren't good at identifying music genres :) it can be confusing for non music people there's allot fo genres. allot of people just throw anything with a electric guitar into rock and metal.
Hard hitting drum and base is traditionally very appropriate for high intensity situations like combat. So it makes sense there's a focus on this sound.
In two words : Licensing hell.
Not only did they need to pad out the soundtrack with non-DMCA triggering music for streamers and content creators in general, but they might have to remove certain tracks later, because licenses ran out. Just look at how much of GTA San Andreas and IV's soundtracks were butchered with "patches" because the licensing lapsed.
Pure rock used to be dominant in it's early days but started dying somewhere in the 90's. It . One the reasons why rock didn't survive because it was a genre that didn't evolve. As Pop Music begin to enter the scene, and hip hop becoming more and more commercial, rock on the other hand stayed somewhat stagnant.
There are so many reasons why the scene faded out and it's too many too list. Rock lost it's identity, it's appeal faded away, streaming became a thing. You can point out all kinds things. Rock just couldn't survive in the new era.
