Why 8 years?
I cant stop thinking about it. 8 years seems like an awful long time. Why it took so long?
1 year planning
2 years city design
2 years missions and gear, animations, sound recording etc.
Should be 5 max, no?
It looks to me like they must have changed something midway through development.
COD are released every year on 2 year production cycle, Assassins every year.

4 years.

My theory is they wasted 5 years writing short story shards just to kill time and waste ours in game too.

Well, 8 years ago the graphics would not have been as nice, so probably uptaded textures and stuff every year or so.

Only one comment on this. COD is generic, repetitive crap so of course they crank one out every 2 years.

maybe you should ask people who work on that field... that includes 3D artist.. programmers... graphic artist... content writers.... screenwriters... etc, i doubt anyone here can answer that, its like asking the wrong people...

actual development was 4 years, they just announced it 8 years ago.

They did. Example Johnny silverhand can't be found in earliest stages of development and it had a tabletop character chart where Johnny silverhand was only vaguely mentioned.

They took on Keanu as lead dev 2 years ago and he rewrote the code from scratch while learning how to use Blender in his free time to make the whole game. Then they handed off the rest of the details to the interns, who were literally children to finish.

All this was after the original devs who worked on Witcher 3 all revolted and tried to burn the studio down after being literally chained to their desks for years only given a ration of bread and water to toil at perfecting that masterpiece.

That is the general concensus here at the Steam boards of what happened, now you can sleep at night.

I thought gamers were to blame for rushing cdpr to release the game

cdpr has shown many times they are basically slaves to their fans.
ohh the game is too long lets make our new one shorter because some guys complained about it.
ohh lets remove the open world rpg from our advertisement because some guy complain about it.
ooo we must release even though we know there are tons of bugs because some guy sent death threats.

they will cave to anything the community wants. maybe they cave fully and stop existing because some guy complain they exist.

It was very edgy.

they changed game after Keanu Reeves joined CDPR, they scrapped all ideas and made new game in less than 2 years about Keanu Reeves
