Why did it take so long to develop?
I have no idea. I could never believe they could cut content... the story is so so short.

Virtual cities with people in them take time to build.

You can experience it yourself. Grab blender 3d, try to recreate the map at the same level of detail. That's including cars and people. That would give you some perspective.

Such a large game like this takes time to make. They first announced Cyberpunk 2077 over 7 years ago and it took them about 5 to 6 years to make it, and it is taking people around/over 100 hours to complete the game. So if you rushed it and didn't do everything then that's your problem.

The development time seems to be in a strange inflation situation as well if you're using these threads for information. I've seen it claimed all ready 10 years. Which is odd if you consider 8 years ago when they announced it, no code had yet been written.

Game companies run by clock. To margin the costs. It has deadlines and such to reduce the costs and is mostly planned ahead what's going to be made. When running into a development hell, basically all content that isn't of npc (actor) characteristics is dumped and remade. The reason why it takes so much time to get fixes on games is because , it's basically the janitor making those fixes.

To the above, I also add: time flies faster when you're on a deadline, especially one that hasn't a prayer of being reached due to all the pipe dreams and pie-in-the-sky hopes that the developers really, really, really wanted to see happen.

If you don't believe me about that, try planning a nursery when your wife is only seven weeks pregnant. You blink, it's nine months later, and she's screaming at you to GET THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SUITCASE IN THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CAR, YOU SONUVABITCH WHO DID THIS TO ME!

True, giving birth is not the same as designing a video game, but there are times when a slower clock/calendar would be choice.

Maybe it takes so long because of the Tools they need to create for that game, Scripts & Shaders.

So every open world game takes 8 years to make?

They are one of the biggest companies in the industry right now, with over a thousand employees. That should give you some perspective.

mostly what others said...and i dont get your point for this question?

i mean looking at how the open world itself operates...they needed at last 2 years more to be honest.

Story and sidestorys are genius...the open world and its missions are dull and lame...

Game was rewritten because of Keanu in 2 years.

Eh, I wouldn't say "beautiful" since it's a latter-day version of 1970s New York City on the West Coast USA. Interesting, I'll give you. Beautiful, not so much. Well, maybe Panam's and Judy's respective rear ends, but that's about it.

There’s so little to do in this game. And so much of it is mediocre.

Interns make things a mess, because they are children. They are no "janitors", I assure you.
