GPU Usage dropping from 95% to 60% after 1.06 Patch
Following on from this Thread

Hi guys, after seeing a huge performance hit after updating to 1.06, I've been doing a lot of testing and monitoring while playing the game and something I noticed that definitely wasn't happening before is, while outside of Night City, in the badlands, and even around the Pacifica area, my GPU usage sits constantly around 95%, providing me with solid smooth gaming experience...

HOWEVER

As soon as I start making my way into the city, my GPU rapidly drops from 95% usage to 60% usage within about 2 seconds, and my framerate tanks along with it. My CPU temps and usage remains basically constant throughout (I have noticed my CPU usage seems a little bit higher now moving from 1.05 to 1.06, although its negligible) so I'm wondering if anyone might have any insights or suggestions as to what might be causing it?

Surely heading INTO the more demanding parts of the game such as the city, the GPU would need to work harder, not less, in order to maintain a solid framerate, right? To see it drop always from 95% to 60% is weird.

So far I've verified my game files and done a fresh install of my Nvidia drivers - neither have helped.

I also checked some other games (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, RDR2) and my GPU usage was sitting constant on 95% the whole time without ever changing. So this is an issue unique to Cyberpunk I think.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I have a Razer Blade Pro 17
Intel i7-10875H @ 2.30 GHz
32 GB RAM
2080 Super Max Q
1 TB SSD

it happens to me too have not seen any fix yet might just be the game has not happened to me in any other game

Your CPU needs to work harder, but there's no available power to do so, so it holds back the GPU.

But did it just start happening now after 1.06? Or have you always had this issue?

What are your specs? Basic information is a must.

You most likely have an AMD cpu as well, the community found a way to fix them before the devs (which was later added by CDPR themselfes). The cores were not fully utilized unlike for Intel ones, missing out on +10 fps.

Let's start by saying that the game is still unoptimized as hell, and on top of that this much cpu usage causes a bottleneck. Your cpu is weak, that's all.
But no worries, most people are having the same issue, unlike those who buy a cpu for a price of a video card.

And the game has some memory leak as well, icing on the cake. You better relaunch it after 1-2-3 hours of gameplay. The more you play, the worse the performance gets. You can see it on the vram usage and mostly on the sight of losing 10 fps.

What can you do? Wait for patches, have a CPU ($$) that doesn't care what you run it with or change the resolution to 4K native...so you only gonna be GPU bound. But so far non of the existing GPUs can run Cyberpunk in 4K at 60 fps.

Hi Thank you for your detailed response. Sorry should've posted my spec before.

I have a Razer Blade Pro 17
Intel i7-10875H @ 2.30 GHz
32 GB RAM
2080 Super Max Q
1 TB SSD

Laptop is only 4 months old, been sitting on a laptop stand since day one, never had any overheating issues etc etc. This whole thing has just started with Patch 1.06. Before that I was cruising this game with great performance Ultra Settings 1080p RTX off DLSS on Quality.

CPU has been at 80'C or less and usage is around 70% mostly. It was more towards 65% before I installed 1.06.

How do i force it to work harder?
C4 Sandwich Dec 27, 2020 @ 3:46pm
definitely after patch 1.06, my GPU (RTX 2070 Super) also suffer from lower GPU usage in the city. It didn't happen before. 90%+ outside the city, once in the city, usage drop to around 55-60% and my fps dropped. I think there's some problem that cause this. It didn't happen before till this patch.

He is a on a 8 core, 16 thread chip though thats plenty for this game, I never seen higher then 60 - 65% on my Ryzen 5 2600x which is 6 core, 12 thread, and my GPU (GTX 1070) is always at 100 like it should be

something else is holding back his 2080

RTX 2060 here, before the patch 1.06 I would have something like 70 fps in the city without ray tracing, game did run completely smooth, but after the patch it runs at 50 fps or even less, GPU usage is also <50% after patch. =/

the same :@ I have a RTX 2060Super

Well they haven't updated anything as they're all away on Christmas / New Year break.
It's reassuring to see others having this same issue after 1.06. The amount of people saying my pc has suddenly ♥♥♥♥ the bed, or my CPU is too slow, is ridiculous.

It's like people don't even bother to read specs. They just spout whatever nonsense is in their heads as a possible solution.

happen to anyone who's been on for extended periods of time after several hours of play the CPU usage starts dropping which begins to affect your frame rates simply just restart game will fix it
