So about NetWatch (and the Voodoo Boys)

Currently doing the Voodoo Boys/NetWatch quest, not sure who to side with tbh. From what I've gathered from the lore so far is that NetWatch is kinda independent and trying to keep the net "safe", but are they the good choice here or should I side with the VB? I mean, at least the NetWatch guy is telling the truth, while Placide is a backstabbing bastard who tried to kill V, but what about the big picture?

Netwatch didn’t set you up. At least they’re pretty honest with V. Shame we can’t just skip meeting the voodoo boys and go in alone. That way we could earn the voodoo boys gratitude.

They are both trying to kill you, but voodoo is a back stabber and netwatch just defending their interest. Its up to you, there no obvious consequence to the future mission right now, choice is just an illusion in this game, except for romance option. Yeah, apparently romance is more important than main story choices in this wanker game.
As for me, i go with the netrunner and kill placid myself.

I think it's funny how wrong Johnny is here (yet again). He's so blinded by his hatred for any form of authority, he keeps telling you the NetWatch guy is just manipulating you, while he's actually the one telling the truth.

i killed netwatch instantly for trying to melt my brain. after i got what i needed from voodoo i hacked my way out of there. no survivors, maximum exp. :)

Placide is a massive bell end. I took the Netwatch path out of principle. My V wouldnt have tolerated Placide and the VB BS

And when [ SPOILER ] I was done with Alt, I just unburied the hatchet and murdered Brigitte, Placide and the rest of the VBs. Placide didn't even last a minute LOL.

this is actually true. really both are evil but the agent at least told you the truth. the down side is if you choose him you kill the people you tried to rescue and you have to fight placide in the end and the VB hate you for a good bit so the choice is youres really.

Both sides are equally shady and would attempt to kill/use V without hesitation if they knew it would benefit them. The Voodoo boys are just more blunt and in your face (nomad-ish) compared to Netwatch being more sly and trickier (corpo-ish).

I sided with the Voodoo Boys all the way till after meeting a certain someone then proceeded to just wipe everyone after that.

Honestly the game doesn't really offer very many real choices. Pretty much all of the dialogue in the game that presents a choice basically boils down the other character refuting the alternative and then requiring you to select the top answer.

I got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by the Agent when I sided with them as they killed me soon as I gave them access.

The Voodoo boys tried to ♥♥♥♥ me over after I removed netwatch and gave them access to the agents. I was hella pissed when the game wouldn't let me kill them all immediately so I massacred them after I accessed the blackwall.

Bigger picture, in the game world, is that Voodoo Boyz are trying to make contact with rogue AI which fled the attempts to restrict them after Arasaka and Militech trashed large chunks of the world using them against each other a few decades before. There's a reason why the Voodoo Boyz leader is named after a loa, and why even everyday language around hacking and cyberspace is linked to Daemons and Angels (Netwatch's term for AI they use to try and fix problems) - AI are as mixed a bag as humans.

Once I called Mr. Hands and he mentioned the electrical usage went down by half in Pacifica. (Because I am a damn Corpo who sided with Netwatch) It was kind of funny. Down with Voodoo Boys.

there is no difference. it makes absolutely no difference. you can walk out if you punch the netwatch guy. you must fight your way out if you let him install a virus in your head. after you walk out of the church it makes absolutely no difference which choice you made and you never see them again.
