CDPR - Windows 7 needs DirectX 12? Where can I get it?
I just for giggles looked again at the Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements, and I slowly glanced through everything...until I saw DirectX *** 12 *** was required. Since I run Windows 7, I figured I'd go look. I'd assumed I had DX12 for some time...and I found I didn't. I had DX 11, so I went to update to DX12.

I FOUND YOU CAN'T UPDATE TO DX12 ON WINDOWS 7 !!!

Only a small percentage of the Windows 7 community has DX12, as a result of a World of Warcraft special update for their installations only.

YOU CAN'T GET DX12 FOR WINDOWS 7 FROM MICROSOFT OR ANYWHERE ELSE. IT'S NOT AVAILABLE AT ALL.

So, CD Projekt Red needs to tell me where I can download DirectX12 for 64-bit Windows 7, or they've completely misled all Windows 7 users, and I want a refund immediately. This is complete BS.

I just submitted the following to CDPR's tech support:

"You made made a MAJOR error in your system requirements. I just found out that your game requires DirectX (DX) version 12. You said that we can play this on Windows 7. Windows 7 is only compatible with DX 11. I just went to find the Microsoft launcher to upgrade my Windows 7 64-bit OS to DX 12 - THERE ISN'T ONE. Microsoft has no way to upgrade Windows 7 from DX 11 to DX 12. So, unless you have a way to upgrade my OS from DX 11 to DX 12, you have lied in your system requirements, and as a Windows 7 user, I cannot play the game at all. So, tell me how I can upgrade to DirectX 12, so I can play this game, or I'm going to request a refund on Steam and tell everyone I know to avoid this game. I don't have $3000.00 to buy a Windows 10 gaming computer, and aside from DX 12, my Windows 7 computer is well above the minimum requirements for this game."

if you can't get it then why not upgrade? it would solve all your problems with windows 7.

DirectX 12 support was backported to windows 7 via windows updates quite some time ago. There even is a folder in the game files named d3d12on7 which contains special dll file to make dx12 work under windows 7. It's obviously not ideal but it should work. It's also not the first game to support dx12 on windows 7. So in summary, if you have updated system, then the game should just work.

Because more than half of my games wouldn't run on WinX.

Specific location of that file?

Also, there is no MS launcher to upgrade to DX12, not even in Windows Update. I tried that.

The game should just work as its a case by case basis with DX12 on W7. There is no blanket DX12 on Win 7 but there is specific games that work on W7 that have what you need in there folders, Wow, RDR2, CBP 2077 etc. Its not a blanket system and is only for some specific games depending on the devs. So long as your system is up to date you shouldn't have issues with it running out of the box.
I highly suggest you read up on it more as I did recently to as I was curious about the folder and after 5 mins found this information out. Perhaps patience would be wise when researching stuff you don't know before submitting reports to tech support when you are in fact only to a degree somewhat correct.

I would also say your response to tech support comes off not only completely rude and half wrong but quite immature as well and the 3k assumption is both wrong and not needed.
If you really want to spit hairs you can play half of that and still play this game at decent settings with a decent GPU, There are plenty of guides on how to build a gaming PC that while wont max every game ever they will be very good and do what you want them to.
I have a stupid over powered PC and even that didn't cost me 3k with brand new parts, I have no clue where you're getting that number.

I've been crashing since I installed it on the 10th. I'm fed up with the crashes. I saw the DX 12 requirement, and went down the rabbit hole only to find no DX12 support at all, except for WOW players, and I couldn't find anything to download. CDPR did NOT mention that it included those files at all, so there was nothing to find on the net. After the 1.04 hotfix, it still crashes every time, and the opening cinematic for the path I chose was choppy as hell, even on all LOW settings. I've had it.

As for computers and parts, I build computers to last at least 10 years. My current rig I think I built in 2013, for Fallout 4's release. New system specs as follows:

This is all wrong... This won't last 10 years, infact it will be strugling already. You are missing an SSD (vital component), Hdd are just too slow at this point. CPU is extremely overpriced and underperfoming to much cheaper current gen cpu's, RAM is very slow, PSU is total overkill, RTX 2060 is a lowend gpu, Soundcard is useless, blu-ray drive is something i would consider useless aswell. You could put together much better system for the price.

Lmao Windows 7, OP lives in -2077.

Enable Windows 7 Compatibility Mode on the game's exe, it fixed the constant crashing for me on Windows 7, performance is still pretty rough, but that's not just limited to Win7.

I won't be building a pc for you. Just look at some of these https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/#X=89268,302499&c=1401,1213,1404,1373,1372
They are almost all better than what you came up with.

The lack of SSD is a critical flaw. This game already has a special setting for slow HDs, and it will only get worse from there. Recent consoles released with NVMes being a major selling point.

Consoles basically set the baseline for game engines, which will now be optimized for at least SSD This will affect not just loading times, but for texture and level streaming. SSDs will be a minimum requirement, with NVMe highly recommended.

1080p monitor? That is outdated today, never mind a decade from now.
