Katana vs Mantis Blades
I was wondering what's best between a Katana and Mantis blades, I think early on Gorilla arms are the best choice because you can force open doors and tear off machine guns from turrets without investing points into strenghth.
Late game when you have enough strenghth already I think it's best to use Mantis Blade and save 1 weapon slot to equip another gun instead of the Katana, I'm supposing Mantis blades does benefit from the blade perks and Strength stats so are Katanas useless late game because of Mantis Blades or I'm I missing something?

I wish there were more options and a weapon switching system more like half-life where you can just have one of everything.
Like I’d rather have an energy weapon than the projectile launcher. A nice plasma cannon. I love katanas though so I’m kinda biased against mantis blades, but I’m not far enough to test them yet. Can you switch them out or is that one where you are stuck with your choice for arms?
Honestly some wolverine style claws would be cooler than the mantis blades though lol. Just IMO.

Stupid that Gorilla Arms benefit from your Strength but you don't need them to force doors and turrets because you have enough strength to do it on rouw own

If you're a full blade build then you wouldn't really need a 3rd gun.
From my own testing so far it seems like katanas have the best heavy attack, and paired with the right skills seems like the best 1-shot item.
Picking the projectile launcher is really helpful against mechs, and groups of enemies where you'd get shot up trying to charge them.

Not useless as such, I think it depends on the build. Katana and others blades might have a place in builds that don't use mantis blades and want an option to cover those enemies who closing into melee range.

I love the katana. Throw a grenade then run in for the kill. Haven't got far enough in to consider mantis blades but I don't think i want those anyway's. Just want to be a ninja.
Haha, same! Cyber ninja right ^^ Like you, I went katana first, when you get in close, your unstoppable, but mate, Mantis blades are super OP, you just rip things to shreds - Give them a try when you get the chance. The damage increase over katana is noticeable. (Level 16, SC 21)

Dropped my katana for mantis and it was the biggest improvement so far (level 20). I think the difference is your prefered game play and what you've spec'd so far.

I'm still relatively early in (got the game on GOG rather tham Steam), but I can see using both. For instance, I recently found a non-iconic epic-tier katana which I have not upgraded at all, and installed rare-tier mantis blades. According to the character stats, I get 532 dps with the former (handily out-dps'ing the long machete I'd been using before that) and 393 with the latter.

The former also gives me more crit chance, crit damage, and bleed damage (11/10/15) than the latter (5/10/10). However... there are areas of the game where you are asked to turn over your weapons, and even the best katana will give you zero DPS when it's not in your possession.

Does mantis still level up blades ?

After using Katana and finally getting Mantis Blades the only benefit I see over Katana is it frees up a weapon slot which doesn't matter if you don't really use guns much. I went back to Katana.

"Does mantis still level up blades ?" Yes.

PSA: You can get legendary mantis blades free from a box in central city. There's a couple videos on youtube showing where. Have to get past the prologue and first act though.

I have to say, Knives my dude. Watched the enemies both bleed out and puke from poison if the first hit doesn't kill and you can throw the blade if you need to. I am lvl 36 though so it is a pretty nice build.

Mantis blades have the gap closer on power attack. Which is often enough an instant kill. They just blow any other melee weapon out of the water by default through mobility alone.

It's pretty stupid that the knives you throw disapear, I hope a modder patches that.

I switched back to katanas after mantis blades as I found the mantis leap attack triggers too easily and it interrupts the slow motion from my implant which is a pain in the ass. Katana is quicker and gets more dps and I prefer the animations. Running a pure melee character without hacking is fun as hell.

Katana by far, mantis blades lock you into a kill animation way too much to be that useful. Plus you get Satori in the prologue which does 500%+ crit damage.

Blows mantis blade damage out of the water.
