Game starts on wrong monitor, no way to change it.
I'm running off an Alienware 17 R3 (Yes yes I know hurr durr gaming laptop... whatever) and have a second monitor installed. Cyberpunk for some reason launches in my second monitor, which I don't use as a primary monitor. It doesn't detect that I have two screens, so I can't change this with the in-game menus. I unplugged the monitor, and tried launching again, but then I don't see the game's window at all, I just hear it. It's like it prefers to launch somewhere else, maybe on a bigger screen, I don't know.

How do I get this to stop?

Try uninstalling the monitor and reinstall the drivers for it again.

There's also an option in the game's settings menu to let you pick which monitor to use......

Except this isn't working which is what the OP is trying to say.

this did not work for me

Windows says monitor 2 is set to primary, but Cyberpunk only recognizes monitor 1 as existing

what if you manually edit the config under r6? set it to the 2nd monitor even though the GUI won't detect it so you can't set it that way? Worth a shot if you don't want to change your config around...

How would I do that?

Are you running cyberpunk in windowed mode or full screen? If windowed, you could try Windows key and shift and left arrow, pressed all at the same time, to move the application window to the other screen. Don't know if that works with games though.

bordorless wondowed

I can try that

EDIT: Tried it and it...kind of worked...but despite being in full screen it doesn't take up the full screen

If you're having trouble getting Cyberpunk to launch on your secondary monitor, it might be best to try changing one of the game's settings. You can change guns, cars or even the monitor itself – whatever works best for you. Just make sure to do this in-game so that you don't have any accidental changes made outside of the game!

would if I could, but the game only recognizes one monitor as existing

And it ain't my primary one

Window key+Shift+ (left or right) should move the game to the other monitor for you.

This may not fix it from starting on the wrong monitor in the future, but is a super quick fix for your issue.

Also you may have HDR on and only one monitor supports HDR and your PC is putting it on the monitor that supports HDR

That's really bizarre -- so it works but it doesn't let you select that monitor directly in game settings.

From what you've said, I'm assuming you've checked which monitor is set as primary in Windows. I don't know what graphics card you have but if it's nvidia you might also check the setting in Nvidia control panel. Finally, I think I read somewhere that the monitor you open steam on can affect where the game opens. I'm not sure that's true but it might be worth a shot (indeed, maybe steam has a monitor selection option -- I don't know).

I'm also assuming that you have your Windows desktop set to extended mode rather than duplicate (ie the desktop spreads across the two screens rather than each screen being a copy of the other). I'm assuming you DO NOT use the project function to run your second screen.

Sorry if last para seems a bit inconclusive just trying to throw up factors that might have a bearing.

the monitor I want to run it on is set as primary (though weirdly, Windows detects is as monitor 2 and it keeps launching it to monitor 1. If I could change THAT I would be golden)
Windows desktop is set to extended, not duplicate
Yes, I do us an NVIDIA, though I'm not sure how to change monitor settings in either that or steam
I would appreciate clarification on what this project function is, but I am 99% certain the answer is "no"
Clarification would help me be 100% certain on this front though
