Same. HDR works fine with other games that have it. I have NONE in grey, like you

You must turn on Windows 10 HDR settings by hand.

Which surely is a bummer though:

It does have HDR.
Enable it in Windows and then the option shows up in graphics settings (video or display, cant remember now).

Looks great too.

No way, another game that is not able to automatically turn on HDR if you choose HDR in the ingame settings, where these settings are only available if the game detects a HDR-capable monitor?

Far Cry 5 even is able to do that. :(

I hope CDPR fixes that similar as Guerilla should do for Horizon Zero Dawn.

I hate the W10 HDR setting and have it always off, as it washes up my Desktop colors and messes with my video playback.
If a game turns it automatically on as of the HDR settings and automatically off when quitting the game, should be the norm IMHO.

Yup that is really lame. Ugh. I got it to work though. What are best HDR settings to use?

Don't bother HDR doesn't work anyway

Although it doesn't specify if it's the same on PC but it seems a fundamental flaw like in RDR2, fake HDR that only makes the whole picture brighter.
Uhm. Sorry to say, but it looks alot better with HDR on. It may not be right or perfect I don't know. But even if it is not ideal/fake hdr. it is still better then without.

But what should you normally change about the HDR in game settings anyone?

I use Reshade and use their HDR setting. The game looks a lot better. Also turn off Film Grain, Motion Blur and Chromatic something or other.
So no one know how to tweak hdr, INGAME?

The game uses a SDR tone mapping - unbelievable :( The black levels are too high as a result. HDR is borked. We have to wait for a patch.. basically the same rubbish that happened with RDR2 on launch. Really disappointing from CDPR.

For bets results, although it is using SDR tone mapping:

HDR: I would go with scRGB as this gives 16 bit over PQ 10 bit
Paper white: doesn't matter, this is your HUD brightness, I find between 150-300 is good for me
Tone-mapping midpoint: this is where the issues show themselves. Best bet is between 0.8 and 1.0. If you drop it to 0 you will see everything goes black, you can raise it from there but I would not go below 0.5. The issue is that because of the SDR tone map, once you go above 1, the blacks become washed out.

It's just a terribly poor show by CDPR on the HDR front. the game itself is an absolute masterpiece, I am thoroughly enjoying it - but I'll probably stop playing until a HDR patch comes.

Use a mod to add it. I did. Looks a lot better now. If the artwork was not so wonky it'd be great. Looking at the older 2018 footage it looks like they had better art direction but sometime between then and now they decided to revamp the world with "colors" and it looks like a freaking cartoon now.

It looks like someone in the beginning had the right idea and whoever took this over destroyed it.

The true HDR mod is ok but it's a far cry from true HDR. Also expect a solid 10-15% hit on your frames. I prefer the game in SDR without any of the Reshade presets I've seen on Nexus so far. Edit: Found this from 6 days ago, and Hotfix 1.05 did nothing to the HDR on PC for me https://www.tomsguide.com/news/cyberpunk-2077s-hdr-is-broken-on-ps5-and-xbox-series-x-what-to-do-next
