Copy Preload file
Anyone know where it preloads to? I can see the Cyberpunk 2077 folder in my normal steamapps folder but the folder is empty. I want to put it on a flash drive and give to a friend who has terrible internet connection.

It is. Unless the friend buys the game, his steam id won't match the files and game won't launch anyway.

He has purchased the game on Steam. The preload is encrypted so he will need Steam to decrypt it when the game is released, which will only happen if he has Cyberpunk in his Steam library. This is simply about preloading, not piracy.

\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077

You're aware this isn't the entire game right? Its only 53GB of a 70 GB download. You can't even backup the data.

Oh sorry, it's steam/steamapps/depotcache for the actual files, whereas their manifest is in the steam/depotcache. You'll need both, the former's the data, the latter their label, if you will.

Yeah, legal maybe, but it won't be much good to the friend.

fair enough, you seem to know what your doing. I just tend to be wary of licensing stuff, but what your saying makes sense.

That wont work. Do it the other way around, bring your friends PC to your place so that he can use your connection to download the game. As Tempted Man already said, the files are without matching steamID worthless anyway.

So your friend has already bought it. Why doesn't he just preload it himself? At 50 kb/s, it would take him 15 hours to preload. He has 50 hours before launch. I fail to see the problem here to be honest.

just go with the flow and deal with the DL. Don't even try these shortcuts. Your RIG your Specs don't mix match with others because it is already coded once it is bought.

That's just not true. The data DL'd is the same for everyone, and the manifest is a directory of them. Without it, steam won't recognize what files it actually has available, that's all...
