Can I move pre loaded files from one computer to another?
So I have terrible internet, 300kbs, and I pre ordered cyberpunk on steam and pre loading starts tomorow. I was gonna go to a friends house and download the game onto his computer and then move the files over via flash drive onto my computer. Is this doable? Ive done this for regular games but not pre loaded games so I wasnt sure if acts like the same thing

You should be able to, Steam should still recognize the files as steam files if you just start the preload for a second, stop it, then restart the steam and the download.

You lose nothing from trying.

If anything it'll probably download the thing into the steam download folder too as well as depotcache and appmanifest.

Ive transfered files over many times and then start it as a new download on my main PC, it finds the files, and then its all done within a minute or two. Im just curios if pre loaded files are any different

try Steam>Backup and Restore when exporting from source and importing to the destination computer. every game i own and transferred through this method works.

As I was saying, it should work as long as it sees the associated depotcache/appmanifest in progress download/preload files. There's no reason that it shouldn't as steam doesn't encrypt files for each individual computer.

So like, as long as the files are there in the right folder, steam apps - common, it should work as if im moving over a basic game?

You're welcome, and yes it's pretty much same logic, just with extra step of tossing in the appmanifest/depotcache files associated with CP2077, Appmanifest and depotcache ID will be starting with 1091500 by the way.

Sp I just need to also throw over the appmanifest into my steam folder, I see where the other appmanifest are.

To answer your question, all CDPR games are DRM Free. This means once the game is installed on a pc, it doesnt need any third party software to run.

So yes, you can download the game at your friend appartment, and move the file on your pc afterward. In fact, you can let the file on the computer of your friend and remove your account from his steam app, and he will be able to play the game. You can remove steam from your pc and be able to play the game. All the files are unpacted in your steamapps folder, once it's done you can grab the folde "Cyberpunk 2077" put it anywhere else and it will be playable.

see thish (second section) ttps:/www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/k3dc0l/cyberpunk_2077_releasegame_info_and_common_answers/
