population density
I'm a bit uncertain about this bc:
Firstly, as far as I know, the devs never commented on this topic and how it may differ between platforms and generations
Secondly, the uh... footage we've been getting these last couple of days shows that population density is pretty low HOWEVER if we take a look at the previews like IGN's or other media they said multiple times that the population was enough and some even said that was exactly like the 2018 gameplay trailer.
Devs, please kindly talk about this topic on the upcoming Cybernight, alright? That's the only thing that worries me and many others.
Thank you!

Take this with a grain of salt from me as I'm not watching any videos on cyberpunk at the moment, so this is thirdhand info. I have heard that the play testers on PC reported very dense crowds in the city, so much so that at times they found running to be nearly impossible.

that's very awesome news! do you have a source, a link perhaps?

It all depends on time of day, events Etc. they wanted it to feel alive.

"Cyberpunk 2077‘s Crowds Are Responsive and Dynamic
Cyberpunk 2077‘s crowds will respond to the time of the day, occurring events (basically, people won’t be out if there isn’t much going on), danger level, and even weather. "

As I said it was third hand info, actually from another user here in the forums, but I'll google it and see what I can find for you.

No. That's an excuse people have been using these last couple of days. "Time of day", "Depending on the place". Read this quickly but a recent footage on a rundown area of the city in the broad daylight only had like 7 NPCs on the street on one instance and cars/truck would pop out of existence.

EDIT: this was on the ps5 using backwards compatibility

Won't know for sure until it comes out. But it may be something that scales with system performance.

It was on a console, not a PC. i have no doubt there will be issues, but this likely isn't one of them. (you really should read the article i linked in full.)

It also could easily just be which part of town you were seeing in the preview.
I just wish the devs would talk about this. It's strange, why have they been avoiding this topic?

They've avoided lots of topics; it was only when someone posted leaked video that I finally got to see anything in-depth on the character creator.

Population density is a real concern with this game. So far this subject has appeared a LOT online, especially back in July. Devs tried to use the excuse that it changes at different times of days and due to the nocturnal nature of that video population density was scarce because people wouldn't typically be out in the very early AM. However, they have desperately avoided almost any daytime scenes in-city in every trailer released to date with daytime either being in the boonies almost always, indoors, or night time focused gameplay. The few existing daytime city scenes show a barren desolate city in terms of population density usually with no more than 3-5 NPCs tops on screen. It is very possible the only place we may see any sizeable NPC density is in alley/market type areas where there are public gatherings of people away from the typical drive by street areas. This is probably done due to technical limitations on the consoles. There is also the rumor that being on foot will have higher population density than in car, possibly due to technical limits when traveling fast over a physical distance in the game but there is no on foot footage to support this, but rather shows the same prior reverse situation with sparse NPC population thus far so it is questionable.

Simple.
Hopefully, but absolutely nothing thus far suggests this to be the case in this particular game. Its bizarre that despite touting next-gen visuals and such we still haven't seen any crowd density and they've actively skirted the issue and scenes that would show such crowds as described above. In addition, PS5/XSX CPUs should be more than capable of handling PC level of crowd performance yet still were apparently operating under the guise all trailer NPC density was off the last gen consoles...?

Ok I looked through a few vids and such and found 1 from IGN (I know, I know but there is surprisingly little info on this) that answers this question half heartedly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx_eQaHprEk

start from 2:05

That said there are a lot of vids on youtube claiming to be from previewers so some of them may have more info.

my info is, that crowd density heavily relies on computing power of the device.

It is much lower on xbox/PS5 compared to pc.. just like with alot of other settings and features being disabled on the consoles, if not they would not be able to reach stable 30 fps with RT. Consoles also don´t use high quality texture packs.
