So... I have something to say about the cover art...
Just to get this out of the way: Witcher 3 is an awesome game. I'm antecipating this game a lot. Probably will buy it in the first week (not before. And you should not too).

CDPR said that V, at least for them, is a woman. Why the cover for the game have a male as V? This change of heart reveals some lack of confidence in the game, maybe.

Keanu Reeves is awesome btw haha.

Who cares?

And yes Keanu is great.

Could you point me where they have said that? And I can’t see how it would be lack of confidence.

yes!! i was thinking the same thing!! i got so attached to the female V i really wanted them to keep her. then they showed the male ver and i feel like hes not as spunky as her.... like if both male version and female where in the game the female V would steal male V's lunch money thats how spunky they potrayed her.

im surprised no one noticed i guess. im not trying to be sjw or anything but i always feel like its a breath of fresh air when games come out with main characters that arent cookie cutter/ all look the same (male, short hair, angry face). i hope we get a chance to play as her because im just not feeling him rn... but even if they only made him playable id still play that ♥♥♥♥ lol

What do you mean?
V being male or female is up to you. Remember that there is character customization where you can set V's gender

At some interview last E3. I don't remember which one.

Games with both genders do have an "oficial" one. Mass Effect is male until andromeda when it changes to female.

Saints row is male but is much fun to play as girl hahaha. And goes on...

It's a shame that CDPR choose the male persona... I do miss games with strong women (or the hero's jorney trope were the hero is actually a heroine. Tales of Berseria was a great game because of that).

By all means, this male persona is good. They did a great job! But still... a silly change of heart.

The game is about choice, should not matter if you play as male or female. You can make your canon female V. That’s all that matter anyway.

Yet the "official" canon is male besides the initial female one.

I don’t care for any “official” cannon. Why should I? Haven’t on ME either.

The cannon should what you believe it to be.

The listing for the game components on the home site states "reversible cover". Most people commenting on this are assuming that means there is a cover for the female V, and you pick which is facing outward on the game box. So, like others here are saying, pick whichever one you prefer.
In the first trailer we heard a male V talking though. It was the same guy from the cover. During the 48min gameplay footage they said ''for this video we're going to play a female character''.
Probably to change things up. So I guess that's why we see male V on the cover, since the trailer started with him as well.

The sole reason we get the standard "guy holding a gun" box art is because it translates into more sales.

I honestly think V as woman is cooler than V as male and less generic as appearance (at least as the customization is represented in their screens). I guess they had to choose 1 and since they showed a new E3 gameplay featuring the male V they kept that for promotional purposes. Nothing points to the fact that that is the final cover tho.

So people who don't follow games will see a cover they like on the shelf and be more likely to pick it up. I read an article once about the Bioshock Infinite cover and how 2K excluded Elizabeth because games with guys on the cover just sell better.

The cover is reversible with the default appearance of the female protagonist on the other side, in case anybody actually cares about getting a physical copy.
