I LOVE the healing with your 4 player AI squad. This is a mechanism that could be important for AAA titles of VR future.

I haven't beaten a single map yet after 1 hour, and you REALLY gotta use the tactics at your disposal. I really like the orders you can give, but I want to set voice commands up... It is pretty hard to remember the steps to select who, and then what you want them to do where. It's a pretty cool design, but this old dog needs to learn the new tricks.

This is pretty dang good for a day one early access. And since this dev hit it out of the ballpark on the early access of ToG 1, expect this to reach even greater heights.

Buy now for a decent solo sandbox romp if you want a break from Pavlov/Contractors/Etc.

And support an A+ dev to polish this into something AWESOME.

It has quirks, and bugs, but if you want, just tell the dev and you won't be disappointed. He will get it fixed, and you will get your money's worth... sooner than later.

No need to rely on a server to fill up for intense battles, with tactical command abilities for your forces, air support, and 100s of NPC going at it with 100+ on the field at once. Plus solo stealth mission levels too. It's Early Access with a few hitches, but if anyone watched Tales of Glory grow from it's infancy to today, then there's no doubt about Jay (BlackTaleGames) ironing them out and constantly tweaking his game to the benefit of all : )

TOG2:R is truly a fantastic FPSVR game, the kind where you feel in the middle of the war and can let yourself go completely.

You have a wide range of different single player missions as a sandbox objective-focused combo,
it doesn't matter how you fulfill the objectives as long as you do it and survive.
The missions also have a good variety of objectives and gameplay, while one mission can be completely chaotic, there are also missions that rely on stealth action.
The game also has many extras to offer, for example being able to use night vision goggles during stealth missions, the objectives here can also be different from hacking computers to killing subjects and even here there is variation you even have to hit 1 with a sniper on a moving ship from a lighthouse and first you have to sneak a whole way then.
I really liked to sneak and stay unseen, as long as this was possible of course,
the silencers on my weapons and the night vision effect put me in the skin of 'Sam Fisher',

In addition to mission-related gadgets, you also have a wide range of different weapons, but you have to unlock these weapons by doing the missions, even if you lose a mission, you can still unlock a weapon that can be more powerful or faster and can help you complete the missions,

Besides the booms & the bangs you also have a choice of different knives, these knives are also extra fun because you can throw them at the enemy and the aiming feels very comfortable. You also have an unlimited number of knives at your disposal, just like the bullets from your weapons. So you won't have to constantly look for ammo or weapons, although you can find locations here and there on the maps during the missions where you can change your weapons.
That's not all, some missions also have vehicles that you can control and shoot at enemies at the same time.
It is also possible to take your personal squad in your vehicle so they don't get left behind.

There is much more, in most missions you can also choose whether you play -with or without your squad, -or with or without a full army, this army is divided into 3 groups and you can control these groups via the tablet that you can grab from your back, you can designate locations where the different groups should go or camp, use this strategically so that you can attack the enemy from as many flanks as possible.
You also have the choice to play all by yourself, without the help of a squad or an army, this is less chaotic but damn fun,
taking on the missions as a 'lone ranger' is a real challenge for any FPSVR fan.

The tablet I just mentioned has other functions, for example in some missions you can call up an airstrike to clear your lane when the counterattacks get a little too hot,
In some missions you will have to conquer areas by shooting all enemies present in these areas so confrontation is inevitable and an airstrike is definitely needed,
in other missions you will have to rescue hostages and some of them are behind locked doors, these doors you will have to blow up using commands,
yes, you can also give your squad separate commands so that they follow you, or give backup, because sometimes you have to heal a squad member, and some other commands, you can also designate them each a location behind corners or trees or other objects to strong and stable firing line.

You also have a number of battle options that you can choose before you start a mission, so you can also determine how the distribution will be between the numbers of your units and those of the enemy, for the extra challenge,
also you have different levels of difficulty and the combination of the last two allows the game to make it almost impossible at times unless you are a trained soldier of an ultra super secret elite squad or something,
but to put it very briefly, this game is an absolute must, I can only recommend it.

Currently the game is about a year old, and today the developer is still working on improvements and new content so who knows what surprises await us in the future.
If we look at the evolution of 'Tales Of Glory 1', the predecessor of this game and therefore also slightly older, there is still a lot of work being done on improvements and updates.

The game isn't perfect, but it's definitely worth the money.

It's a modern single player shooter with two basic modes. A battle mode with four large maps, and an infiltration mode with three smaller maps.

In the battle mode, you spawn in with four NPC squad members alongside an army. You have a series of zones to clear across the map, fighting against hundreds of enemy combatants. You can issue direct orders to your squadmates, with an in depth command system.

In the infiltration mode, you spawn in on a solo stealth mission. The mechanics play similarly to Splinter Cell, with wall climbing and light-based stealth mechanics. Your objective is to kill a target without being detected, and then extract alive. You have silenced weapons, knives, and can drag and hide bodies.

Now for the review:

VR interaction: The VR interaction is top notch in this game, with full physical interactivity. You can prop your gun on a wall to aim better, or even bash an enemy to death with it. This does lead to some issues, namely in that you'll sometimes accidentally catch your gun on geometry, but that's to be expected with a system like this. There's no weapon ghosting through walls like in other VR shooters. This is more Boneworks than Pavlov in that regard. One downside is that grenades aren't interactable once they've been thrown, but I assume that'll be addressed in a patch at some point

Gunplay: The gunplay is solid. Aiming goes where it's supposed to on the Rift S, and shooting is satisfying. Due to the game being fully physical, shooting an enemy has an impact that isn't usually felt in VR shooters. Dead enemies don't just play canned animations. Each bullet impact knocks them back, and they ragdoll in a weighty, realistic manner.

The maps: The maps are well made, with each one capturing a different vibe.
-The Russia map captures the feeling of the old World War 2 games, with you and your army riding a boat onto a hostile beach covered in concrete bunkers.
-Syria feels like a modern era desert warfare game
-Guayana is a jungle map with an almost Vietnam-esque feel to it.
-Taiwan is a city map where you fight your way out of a subway and through a metropolis. It feels like something out of Battlefield 3

Overall gameplay loop: The gameplay loop overall is solid, but in some aspects is a mixed bag. I've put in over 6 hours in just a few days. The battles are an absolute blast. The feeling of running into a hail of gunfire and dragging an injured squadmate behind cover as bullets whiz past you is something that I've never felt in VR. Same with throwing smoke grenades to move across an open area in a heated firefight. The battles really do feel like a war game. It reminds me a lot of the old school war shooters like Black Hawk Down and the like. It's a lot of fun, and unique as far as VR shooters go.

The infiltration missions, on the other hand, could use some work. The objective in infiltration missions is simple enough - stealthily infiltrate an enemy encampment and assassinate a target. In practice, I've run into numerous stumbling roadblocks. The primary one being that there's no indication that I can see of where in the map the actual target is. You have a tablet you can pull out to see the map, but the target isn't shown. This wouldn't be so bad if not for the alarm system. There's an alarm you can disable in the maps, but again, you've got no indication of the location of it. If a body is seen, or if you are seen, the alarm goes off and constantly spawns reinforcements until you disable it. It has also gone off when I haven't been spotted, but that could be a case of me not hiding the bodies well enough.

Overall: Would I recommend this game? Absolutely. There are issues, but those issues are primarily limited to the Infiltration mode and will be relatively easy for the dev to smooth over. The battles alone make this game worth the $20 cost of entry. The overall gunplay and moment to moment shooting gameplay is a blast, and honestly the game as a whole is a unique take as far as VR shooters go.

I bought this game after a tip from a discussion forum. I do not usually bother writing reviews, but when I see something in EA that I like and really want to see more of I feel it's my duty to support it by doing so.

What this game does best, is to make you feel like you are taking part in an assault in a large scale battle. All other FPS I've experienced in VR is focused on small scale battles. This feels like a battlefield.

It also helps a lot that the AI is very good. Rarely ever do they die in a silly way doing non-sense. If someone gets killed, it's usually because a flank was left uncovered or similar.

In this game you are not a super human. Unless you are terrible at the game, you will probably have the highest kill count. However, by no means is progress completely dependent on your performance. Often you will run around a corner ready for the kill only to realize the rest of your army has already cleared that area and is moving on to the next. I'd like to describe it as being a pawn on a large chess board.

I've spent an hour playing this on the medium difficulty, and has been nowhere near completing a mission. It's realistic in the way that you can't take a lot of hits before you drop dead, thus making it a thrilling challenge not only to stay alive, but also to complete your objectives while doing it.

The game has about 10 missions, each with it's own map. Half of them are sneaking missions, and the other half traditional conflicts/assaults. They are quite large, and whenever you die you are kicked back to the lobby. I'd dare say this EA game gives you many hours of fun, depending on which difficulty you choose.

The game is in early access, and that can be felt. Certain menus look and handle very much like placeholders. It plays much like an arcade in that you simply select a map from a map selector and that starts that mission.

The only complaint I can think of is that I wish they'd invested just a bit more into the graphics. The game does not look bad, but some scenes just leaves a lot to be desired in terms of visuals. I do assume this is a sacrifice that had to be made in order to be able to have that much happening in the game at the same time.

The developer has a reputation on the internet for being very talented and fixing issues rapidly as it is uncovered.
All in all; I have high hopes for this game. It succeeds at what it is trying to be, and I already enjoy what it is, so it can only get better moving forward.

So, for an early access game, it has that early access jank.

However, it's not to bad for an EA game. -Made by the same developer behind Tales of Glory, this time the game takes a modern day, tactical shooter, with RTS sort of approach. You essentially play a battlefield commander who has control over several dozen soldiers (100s if your computer can handle it) while having a personal squad of 4 which you can use as your body guards. You can send companies to certain locations with a tactical map and have them take control. Such as have Alpha company control north point while Charlie company attacks south point.


Good:

-Better EA state then Tales of Glory 1.

-Company and squad control can be a bit confusing but really cool how you can communicate via voice controls or by simply raising your left hand over your ear and get options. You can even give individual commands to your body guards. Simple commands as follow, resupply, heal me or search and destroy.

-Guns feel good and shoot pretty well. If you like shooting in H3VR, Pavlov, or Zero Caliber, then you won't have a problem in this game. Though throwing knives are really weird.

-Difficulty choices. This levels are not something you can just run and gun through. You actually have to watch your corners and use your unit command ability to clear areas.

-Solo stealth levels where you can infiltrate a location to kill a target.

-For EA, it runs pretty well on my pc and can handle a lot more people on the screen then Tales of Glory 1 did.

-Several graphical, audio, and movement options!

-There's actual bullet holes in the enemies, which you don't see much of in other shooters, including flat games.

Bad:
-Got that EA Jank! You're very jumpy when you are moving and aiming. It kind of forces you to stand still and shoot.

-Limited weaponry, which isn't surprising for an EA.

-In Infiltration (Solo stealth mode) the AI is sort of dumb? I killed one guy and the rest ran towards me, single file, so I just kept killing them. However, in another level, they automatically knew exactly where I was. I hope to see this mode get fleshed out some more.

- Don't know if my touch controller has bad drift or if it's this game.

Conclusion:

The developer is a one man game building machine and did such a great job with the first game and this game is already off to a strong lead. If you've been looking for a tactical shooter and don't mind early access games, then this is one to pick up. If you don't like early access games, at least keep an eye on this one.

It seems abandoned, no updates in almost a year.

One of the few Military Sim thats focused on Single Player gameplay. And one that does it great.

There are different type of missions, and all of them are fun, from regular kill everyone, to solo missions where stealth is essential.

Excellent gunplay, great action, huge maps, incredible amount of enemies with good performance.

It has a lot of features that work incredibly well, i love the 4 squad commands,

The game still needs polish in some areas and add more content all around, but so far its coming along great.

The Dev is responsive and updates are pretty constant, always improving.

A very easy game to recommend if you want some Single Player Military Action.

Its not a bad game it's just very dull

Big battles over territories on big maps. Really feels like you're in the middle of a battlefield with your soldiers. Both sides going back and forth moving their front to try to overtake the other.
Also throws in some fun stealth missions. Maps are big and open and let you plan your own strategies.
This dev is always working to improve every aspect of the game and takes all feedback.
