Quake 2 rtx full game.

Hello, a friend of me told me that if you purchase quake 2 on steam and you download quake 2 rtx you can play the full game with ray-tracing. But i can't find any info of that.

Is that true? Can you play the full quake 2 game with ray tracing when you buy the standard quake 2 version?

Yes, you can play full game in RTX once you provide it with files from the full game.
You may buy Q2 on any store or even use old CD version of Quake 2 for that. You only need a few files copied. You can copy them manually but better run Quake2RTX-Steam-Setup.exe
from the setup subfolder or find-retail-paks.sh script on Linux and point them to the existing full Quake 2 installation on your drive.

Do note that music will only be available if you have Quake 2 Quad Damage version which has music in ogg form or if you take old CD version and grab music tracks from it manually.
Steam version of Quake 2 does not have music.

you can use the RTX directory system as a hub for your quake 2 episodes, as long as you borrow which are essentially driver files from SkacikPL.

All I did was go to the enhanced version folder and copy the music folder to the baseq folder in the RTX version and it works now so I am happy the music is playing for the RTX version, I am hoping someone can code the compass to the RTX version since I get lost in Quake 2 and the last time I played it fully was way back in 1997

There are a few things that Quake 2 RTX doesn't have from the 'normal' version of Quake 2.
- The 'compass' is missing from Q2 RTX
- The enhanced monster A! is missing from Q2 RTX
- There's no easy way to set up a coop game in Q2 RTX

Are there plans to bring in these features? The compass is REALLY handy, and I would like to see the Berserkers jumping around in the RTX version as well. And be able to play through the levels with a friend without needing to consult a dedicated server creation expert...

They really should have just added all the RTX features into the recent Quake 2 update. The two being seperate makes no sense

It should autodetect gog's Quad Damage install, and do the thing. Which is nice, but I've already done the thing manually.

I bought the new version of quake 2..... Quake 2 RTX doesn't recognise it for some reason.
It would be awesome to be able to play rtx with multiplayer

By doesn't recognize you mean the setup program(setup/Quake2RTX-Steam-Setup.exe) fails to copy files? I've just ran it and it copied pak, movie, and player model files just fine.

I didn't do any copying etc. of files. I can't find those requirements on the steam page?

What requirements, to copy Q2 files?
Store page says

Purchase the game to access all levels as well as multiplayer support.

And then on the first run game automaticallly starts Quake2RTX-Steam-Setup.exe whichs asks either to select shareware version or provide the location of full Q2 install.
