Quake II RTX

Quake II RTX

How do you install this?
I thought I'd installed the game but it requires me to install the RTX component. I go to the Quake RTX folder and click Base2 and it still won't install. What do?

During first run setup program will start asking to either install either demo/shareware files or full game. For full game it will ask you to provide location of original full game install.
You can run that setup program manually - Quake2RTX-Steam-Setup.exe in the "setup" subfolder.
You don't need to copy anything manually, setup program will do that for you.

If it says something about RTX card not being found then either your videocard does not support raytracing or there's a problem with drivers.

I have an RTX 4070Ti so I'm ok on that front.

I clicked on the Quake2RTX-Steam-Setup.exe file and it's asking me to choose the folder qhare the Quake II game files are located. I select :F\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake II RTX\ and it tells me: "Game files (baseq2\pak*.pak) are not found in the specified location. Please specify the correct location." I try to have go into Quake II RTX\baseq2 but it gives me the same result. I don't see "pak*.pak" in the baseq2 folder.

You should point it to the original Q2 location, not this Q2RTX. It needs files from the original game. Q2RTX is just a source port, it does not give you full game for free and so you must provide it with files from the original game.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Any luck on this? When the popup appears for the install location, it's complaining that it can't find a pak file. I can't see that on my drive.

You can try a manual installation, using my preset OPEN GL build you can skip the wizard.
The only thing is you'll need to copy/paste those three pak files yourself.

You enevitablty have to copy manually to use expansions, I have a pre-build here:
