Quake II RTX

Quake II RTX

I think Berserker Quake 2 looks better...
*ducks*

I do. Overall. Might not have the pretty god rays, but the rest of the game has better textures and detail, sans shiny weapons.

I think Crysis looks better as well but its not rendered with just ray tracing. I'm assuming you're making the joke to all those that expected the game to essentially be remade or remastered.

No, not a joke. Serious. Berserker Quake 2 is a mod for Quake 2, much like RTX is a mod for the same game.

RTX is overhyped.

Q2 RTX is only a lighting mod in fact... what did you expect?

Artistically, it may fit better the original QII vision, but it's way too dark.

Quake II XP is pretty good tho.

These posts are so dumb. We have a fully pathtraced game here running in realtime. Zero rasterization involved. Does that automatically make everything look better? Obviously not. Is it incredible? Absolutely.

What's dumb is calling something worse incredible. :P

Raytracing is neat, but when it comes to a 20 year old game, I only care about what makes it look the best, for the least performance hit.

Q2 RTX is basically just a fancy tech demo.
The low poly count probably helps with what the path-tracing has to work with.
Then you have multiple options to play with, see what it can do (even by diverging from the original Q2 atmosphere), check how the dynamic light rendering looks without the textures, test performances, etc.

Even the reworked textures seem to come from Q2XP - not specifically produced for Q2RTX w/ the original iD artists touch.

At this time, RTX owners don't even have any free tech demo or game that fully uses what the RTX can do. We only had videos from NVIDIA (maybe because they required multiple Titan RTX to run at a smooth framerate and decent resolution).

Imho, Q2 RTX is not designed to be any sort of ultimate Q2 experience.

It's a nice tech demo but let's quite some things to be desired as a remaster.

Still, this is probably the closest it comes to an "official" QII remaster.

Berserker mod, is pretty damn good, started on that once I heard about Q2PTVk being available.
