I installed the RTX to my Quake 2 directory but doesent seem to start though now i will try with the steam Quake 2 version

It can emulate different language/locale.
Another way to solve is to google for that installer's unpacker. First you need to know what kind of installer it uses and then search for tool that unpacks it.
And im not gonna download some additional unknown drivers to get something to work that i can actually already run
It's the same CD that i've ALWAYS had since it was released
Q4 SE, included Q2 with both expansions.
Instead of running a setup, I found that all files were already extracted on the CD. I just located the folder that contained the executable and copied everything to my hard drive.
I don't remember the exact path of where the folder was, but it's not hard to find. It wasn't named "Quake2" it was named data or something similar. I renamed it after copying.
I didn't try to see if the installer on the CD actually worked.
EDIT:
BTW, if you copy files from a CD they will be marked as read-only. This shouldn't affect RTX in any way, because it just needs data files that wouldn't be modified anyway.
But it might affect anyone trying to run Quake2 as is. Easy fix, just change the file properties, and remove the read-only. The installer on the CD would have likely taken care of that.
Or video card is too old and does not support Vulkan.
but im more afraid that updating the video driver will ruin my old retail games that are hard to get to work with Win 10 to begin with. And the updated Q2 simply isnt worth it. I looked the screenshots and some videos the skybox is an total joke. I personally use software mode on Quake 2 cause i find the OpenGL extremely ugly compared to the nostalgic grey pixels. Same with the original Doom. Where most ppl play with the ugly blurry textures instead of the original pixels. But thanks for the info.
But the RTX installation doesn't find anything... and the install speaks of .PAK files as in multiple..

The way patches worked back then was leave the pak0 untouched and add the changes in a new pak1 file or 2 3 4, etc. The binary however would be overwritten.
It's possible the search mechanic of Q2RTX is searching for an exact version of Q2. Likely 3.20 which was the last official release.
I believe you can copy your CD to something like C:\Quake2, and then try to find the 3.20 patch online.
Thanks man :)
maxing out at 35FPS on an RTX2080..
way to take us back 25 years nvidia lol
