2080Ti 4K Playable 40+ FPS
I been tweaking the options to get a playable game with RTX with the best graphics i can at 4k. there are 2 different settings that works well. one with Global Illumination set to High and one with Global Illumination Off

This one gives you maxed out Global Illumination with 60% resolution scale
Result: 45+ FPS

You can get higher FPS but my goal was to get playable frame rate and looking the best and not focusing on 60+ FPS

Hardware tested on
CPU: Intel i9 7940X
GPU: EVGA RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Gaming Ultra
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB DDR4-3200
Game Drive 2x WD_Black SN750 1TB Raid0

At the same time I went though all the game settings to see what, in the config, each line controls and worked out, well 98% of it. Some i just have no idea what they do. Some of the config lines do not exist with the default cfg generated by the game until you change those specific things in the settings or use the information below

if you copy and paste this in to your q2config.cfg all the formatting will be reset when you change the options. I just thought to post it for reference

Resolution won't change from desktop one if vid_fullscreen is set to 2 (in my build) to force fullscreen resolution you need to use vid_fullscreen 1 then use

vid_fullscreen_exclusive_w
vid_fullscreen_exclusive_h
vid_fullscreen_exclusive_refresh

alternatively you can set "viewsize" to 200 which will act as internal 2x resolution scaler without messing with anything else in the game, which at 1920x1080 base resolution will give you 3840x2160 render resolution.

SkacikPL Laid no claims to anything about running the game at 4k @ 60fps. That was me. I was wrong and I openly admitted it here on the forum. The only reason that he was dragged into this discussion was because of me.

If you sir want to throw insults about the 4k claims throw them at me. SkacikPL is one of the most helpful people that I have met on the "Toxic" Steam forums.

And, further more for your information if you want the latest updated builds get them directly from github 24hrs a day 7 days a week as they come out. It sounds like you sir have never heard of github let alone use it.

Well you are doing better than me, I have a 2070S and its a pretty constant 30-35 fps at 3.5K default settings.

Even with RTX 2080Ti in SLI I can barely hold over 40 fps at 4K with max settings. Compared to single RTX 2080Ti it isn't really playable at that setting however in SLI it's very much playable. If it's been modded to run much smoother without any compromises, I'd like to try it.

Q2 RTX visually scales to high resolutions better than any game I've ever seen. When the denoiser is enabled, lighting detail is more or less directly proportional to resolution.
