Subtitles- HELP please

To start off things- I'm deaf and I love, love GOTG. But unfortunately when I got this game and turned on subtitles, closed caption and everything...

Only to get subtitles not showing up while the characters are talking and I've struggled on figuring out the fix.

I seem to remember something about a similar glitch if the controller is using audio.
Turn off controller audio if you're using one.
