Edit: Here are other things I've tried, which did NOT resolve this issue. Basically, I'm definitely stuck - can't play the game at all anymore until a patch is released to fix THIS broken patch.
1.) Uninstall and Reinstall GotG
2.) Disable secondary display
3.) Disable HDR
4.) Disable FullScreen
5.) Disable Raytracing
6.) Disable Steam Overlay
For everyone in here with the same issue. I went on the steam properties for the game and unchecked "Enable Steam Overlay while in-game". Also Before starting the game I go on options and uncheck the "Fullscreen" option, so the game starts in windowed mode.
This apparently works for me and the game actually starts, you can even full screen again after the game is already running,
Could be a third party anti-virus. I'm just using windows defender and windows firewall. I have steam and nvidia overlays active. Game still ran perfect like before the patch. I can't offer any solutions since i am not experiencing any issues. Re-launched game 5 times back to back (So... many... splashscreens....) and no funky behavior.
Ryzen 5 5600x and 3060Ti. Zero issues.
Watch it be McAfee bloatware XD. Joking aside, anything could be causing it, and some say steam overlay was the reason. Perhaps even bad registry lol. Could also be related to a fix in the update that is somehow in some bizarre reason causing it. Code gets funky sometimes lmao.
Anyways great game, and hope you guys iron out the problems some people are facing. The team did an amazing job with this game.
and
literally, why did you comment other then to kiss ass?
I commented entirely because i can, and also because me not having any issues despite having 2 overlays active indicates that they are not the direct cause. Something else is causing the strange behavior. I would dumb it down to simply bad registry. Also If you have used a program like "Driver Booster (paid)", you would know there is more than 1-2 drivers in a PC. For me i have 37 of them, not counting ones for my CPU and GPU. It is rather shocking how many people do not use a PC maintenance software of any kind to help keep their PC clean and optimized.
There is also the noted anti-virus possibly treating files in the update as problematic and blocking them. However since i am not experiencing any problems while using Microsoft Defender and firewall, it is likely a third party anti-virus as a cause. Did you know there is an option in windows Updates & Security called "For Developers" at the bottom. In it there is a toggle to allow installation of loose files and apps from any source. This is generally not on by default. If you mod, you usually have to enable it. Just something to think about.
After all, i cannot tell of a solution to a problem i simply do not have. As i have stated....
Though let me ask you a few questions. What made you feel the need to respond to my comment? What did it accomplish? What was your goal?
As an addendum let me add this: Me stating that i enjoyed my experience with the game is not "Kissing ass", and you stating such a thing makes you seem like an [Fill in the blank] as well.
- In some cases with exclusive fullscreen there is an issue with selection of incorrect refresh rate that can give black screen on boot, if you see this try non exclusive fullscreen. This issue will be addressed in the next patch
- Crash/Exit on boot have been attributed to antivirus blocking the game, please check your antivirus settings
- Some crashes have been seen with obs and other services that inject overlays and similar into the rendering, please quit and disable anything that might be adding overlays
- Some have required a reinstall
- Are you running stock overclocking, voltage etc. some have seen issues when pushing these values
- if you have any doubts over the suitability of your psu, you might try limiting frame rate confirm your psu is suitable for your setup
- Slow start and crashes have been attributed in some instances to steam shader caching, try disabling steam shader caching
- you could try deleting raw*.store files from your exe folder
