There is an auto lock anyway so controller may be a better choice overall. But I play through the game with keyboard and mouse, to make giving orders easier I just changed difficulty options to slow down time almost to a crawl.
Giving orders with a gamepad may be better, more intuitive due to how UI looks like.

I am playing with keyboard and mouse though I suggest you change Guardians Mode to Press from Hold in Accessibility Settings. Otherwise it'll be very annoying. Not sure if it's as annoying in gamepad.

Camera control is always better with mouse.

You'll need to remap a few commands to something you find better, but that's supported. I remapped the guardians/power buttons to the side buttons on my mouse and it made things more comfortable.

Keyboard/Mouse feels a bit better when controlling the camera, and if you're used to playing with a keyboard you'll probably appreciate it more. But when it comes to single-player action games I always try to use a controller, if only because these games are almost always built for console and it just ends up being easier to pick up a controller instead of worrying about rebinding keys and testing to see what's comfortable or not. This game's no exception.

i use keyboard and mouse. it is just what i always use so i am used to it. it works great with keyboard and mouse.

for fighting im using mouse + keyboard, for other parts of game - controller :).
Shooting on controller is like using mayonese instead of thermopaste on cpu

I'm using M/KB and was wondering if giving out squad orders is less clunky on a controller. Otherwise doing great with M/KB.

Thank you!!! I was going crazy trying to figure out why I was having such a hard time using the guardian's abilities and mine. I knew I had to be missing something. When I was pressing HOLD it made it was too cumbersome trying to also select a guardian and then an ability with the same hand. Changing that setting to PRESS on both the guardians' and players' abilities suddenly made the combat less frustrating.

How do people have difficulty holding SHIFT? You press SHIFT, and then use the mouse to select the abilities you want.

Wait, are people using BUTTONS to select team powers? Why would you do that? This game has gone out of its way to have proper mouse controls.

Both work fine in this game, try both and see which you prefer.

Thank you! Sorry for necro, but I've just bought this game on Sale 😁 And had the same dilemma as OP... As I have vary good PAD (Dualshock 4v2) and top tier K&M (Logitech G915 and G502 LightSpeed).

controller is insufferable! I made it half way through the game (on hard mode) before I decided to restart with keyboard and mouse. I was fine relearning all the controls with minor tweaking. much much better than a controller....
