Why are the "actors" looking so weird and unrecognizable?

I've watched the 2 movies, played the adventure game.
What did I miss?
The characters in this game are unrecognizable, even the racoon looks different, also the "dumb muscle".

What's happening? Why is that so?

You know this was a comic? The game did their own spin, but the source is the comic, not the movies.

What you missed is that the MCU is not nearly the only versions of these characters. They have had many different designs throughout the years, through many different reboots and artists.

Due to that, this game is free to basically make them look however, as long as it falls into what they generally look like. And this does.

Google "guardians of the galaxy comic" and check the images tab. You'll see that it's the movies, and games that are based on the movie license, that looked off-style, not this.

It seems like the MCU has made people think that the movie versions are the only versions of these characters sadly.

Fictional characters that were created in 1969 are not defined by actors that were hired to portray them in a film adaptation from 2014.

chars are not even close to the comics nor movies

this is imo due to copyright issues more than anything. you cant have game chars look like the actors or they get royalties % higher

Even the comics don't have a consistent look, they can vary so much from artist to artist.

They dont have license for the MCU cast. Probably because getting a bunch of A list actors likeness is gonna cost a pretty penny.

The movie is just a movie..Marvel created the characters. They don't look exactly like they do in those movies. The Marvel Comics show what they actually look like.

Chris Pratt and Dave Batista were too expensive to hire so they hired their non union Mexican equivalents.

Technically it is a comic tie in rather than a MCU movie tie in so they can get away with hiring different actors.
