Rebel Inc: Escalation

Warlord
what is the proper way to play this character? i ended up losing all of the national guard troops due to being unable to pay them thier 'bribe' fees

Yeah, it's not really an advantage if they cost a buck but permanently leave with no replacement.

My strategy with the warlord is going for an early peace deal. If I play for points I would take a different Leader.

ya it seems after trying again the best way to deal with the national troops is to 'turn an eye'

Well the national troops cost is low so even with a single bonus/bribe they are still cheaper than for your other characters.

Well the national troops cost is only 1 so even with a single bonus/bribe they are still cheaper than for your other characters.

doesn't matter every 6 months or so they require MORE money. you will go bankrupt by trying to pay them off, especially once you have 4 national guard units

Yeah, at this point warlord is feeling more like voluntary "hard mode" rather than having any real advantage.

Well i just managed to achieve Victory with one after a few tries but it sure was the hardest so far.
I'd say he's even worse than the banker.
The cheap militias CAN be helpfull, but only if you can establish stable support and dont hire them all at once... with a bit of luck you can stagger their pay-demands which makes it SOMEWHAT manageable. But all in all... few pros, many cons.

ya i've found that you have to mix it up between paying them off and taking the corruption hit. If you max out the anti corruption upgrades you can survive with mostly taking the corruption hits if your support is high enough

I wish the unique upgrades for the warlord would delay those events. you would think if he suddenly started killing people suspected of defecting to the insurgency it would take a while before they would ask about money

One really helpful thing for Warlord is to start building garrisons early, and buy the toll booth upgrade - it reduces support level, but the extra income you get from it helps pay off the soldiers and only increases as the map goes on. Other than that, you should limit the number of national soldiers you buy (and stagger them), and either take a peace deal or buy plenty of civilian stuff to get those zones stabilized fast and get more $$. Also, the % chance of protests/corruption goes down as you pay them off more times, so as long as you but anticorruption you'll eventually reach a point where you can just turn a blind eye and be relatively safe.

I agree. Warlord is unplayable 'normally' and their bribe fees are COMPLETELY ridiculous even for their worth. If you're a soldier heavy player, it ruins your economy. I had to go casual in farms go get through a scenario with him, and even then barely.

This character is the only one that i did not roll out all my military force.
I keep at 2 green and 1 blue.
I focus on civ and pr and anti corruption.
Only on normal difficulties.

Focus on support and expand fort as early as you could, then anti-corruption and get money from fort. If your support high enough Turn blind eye only cost you corruption. I don't know if it's works on anything but casual because it's just too hard stabilize with warlord, he got local militia on start anyway.

This is the trick. If you don't put your soldiers into losing fights and don't train them too early, the Garrison tolls will cover your bribe costs easily.
