Graphics settings Explanation?
So far I can gather what some of those settings do in total. But a lot of them should really have been seperate things. Also keep in mind that DX11 effects only get used on Each of the ULTRA settings. But I'm not too sure what each setting does and what causes most framerate drops.

Game Effects = What does this exactly do? I have no idea. Changing from "High" to "Ultra" doesn't change anything. I've taken screenshots and compared. Someone know what this actually does? I've heard that this affects the Nanosuit related effects, like Armour Mode or Stealth Cloak etc. But is that the only thing it does? Surely it must do more.

Objects = From what I can tell. This is a combination of a few things. This changes Draw Distance of objects, I believe it also changes some geometry. On Ultra it actually draws in MORE objects too. Like on High if you see a branch 2 feet away from you, on Ultra it'll have loads more tiny branches coming off of it. Also, DX11 only gets used on Ultra. So the fake tessellation stuff they got going only comes in when you Turn it to Ultra.

Particles = I don't actually know the differences of Ultra/DX11. But on High it seems that the smoke coming from explosions/cars is kinda choppy. While on Ultra the flow of the smoke is a much smoother. Someone know what kind of settings/effects this thing actually affects?

Post Processing = One thing I'm certain of that this must also contain several graphical settings. Probably things like Reflections, Anti Aliasing etc. I definitely know for sure that it has AA but I bet it also changes several other things. This probably also has Depth of Field, maybe even bloom and lens flares. Anyone got any specifics on this?

Shading = This seems to be related to shadowing. Maybe stuff like HDAO/SSAO/AO in general. But again... I have no idea what this does. Someone explain please.

Shadows = This one is obvious. High to Extreme, the shadows just get less blocky and increase in quality and resolution. Ultra seems to blur out the edges of the shadows. And for some reason, Having this on High or Ultra barely affects the framerate. Again, the DX11 Penumbra ♥♥♥♥ probably doesn't kick in till switched to Ultra.

Water = Apparently this uses the CPU. From High to Extreme I can't really notice a difference. But in DX11 (Ultra) the water/waves clashing together create foam. And the water just seems to look and react better.

Basically, why are the graphics settings bunched up into only a few when instead we could be given seperate setting for each thing. Like Bloom/Lens Flares/God Rays/Character Model Details etc.

I need someone to confirm/explain these to me.

I was also wondering why theres no specific settings for the grahics, its making it really hard to figure out what to change so i can get rid of the frame rate drops

Check this out, i think this is what most people used when the game launched, though I can't speak to the updated version as i haven't played the game since then. Hope this helps!

I'll give it a shot man. It's pretty annoying though how PC games don't even have Fullscreen Windowed options. =/

And then other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ options that compile several things together so you can't exactly customise the look of the game yourself.

You know... because modern gaming is all about that "cinematic" appearance. Oh no no, we will force the player to play the game like WE want them to.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I only had a laptop to run the game on when it first came out so I HAD to be able to individually tweak the settings to find a proper balance of image quality and performance. This is what we get when developers decide to alienate the crowd who supported them from the start and shift their focus to mainstream consoles. We didn't even get DX11 support for months after release, but i have to admit it's a nice incentive to jump back into the game now that i have a proper pc to play it with.
