Not exactly, it was kind of like an enhanced edition with all the multiplayer and the directx11 patch included.

The differences are minor. Its not like a full high def remaster or anything. Plus as multiplayer is not active (well not without some creative patching and mods by the community) a lot of what makes it the maximum edition is not relevant these days :p

How is the remaster different from the regular version?

Firstly its running on a new engine. Higher resolution textures, better resolution support, hardware accelerated ray tracing etc.

Here is an article explaining the differences.

Why is the remaster not on Steam? Are developers that stupid? 90% of all profits from game sales come from Steam. If the game is not in Steam, then this is a failure.

Its not stupid, its money, epic paid to have the rights for a year. So it may come eventually, at the moment its on epic games store.

Likely this October 2022. When the EGS exclusivity ends

I wouldn't pay for it even if it does eventually come to Steam. My version with the Blackfire Mod 2 is a ton better and constantly waiting for Epic's sloppy seconds pisses me off. If Crytek didn't have faith in their product to begin with, then neither do I. It's not like this version looks that much worse or that somehow the gameplay in the remaster is better. Of all the games that ever needed a remaster, Crysis was the last on my list. Especially 2 and 3.

Yep, I have heard a few people who has said, while the remaster of the first looks better, it does not play as well. (also I believe the first one is the only one running on a totally new engine as it was ported to the same engine as 2 and 3, which have essentially had makeovers.)

It is Epic games store exclusive title so you can only purchase the game through epic games store.
