Absurdly Low Performance? Some tips!
This tip will solve the very low fps rate on alan wake for some people even when they have the recommended requirement.

1) Make sure your Graphic Cards settings are all set to "Let the application decide". Even if you made all these settings to the lowest possible, for some random crappy reason, some games can have a extremely low performance (Alan Wake is one of these games)

2) Have you Graphic Cards up-to-date! It's not just about "bug fixes", they actually increase the performance of your Graphic Cards for gaming and even when you game is already running smooth, you can gain some extra fps with an update.

Update for NVIDIA Cards[www.nvidia.com]
Update for AMD Cards[support.amd.com]

3) Try disabling the effects that do more "damage" on games: Antialiasing, VSync, Blur, 3D and last (if everything else doesn't work) reduce the textures.

4) if you are extremely desperate to gain some extra fps (maybe you mouse is laggy on the gaming, i dunno) you can use the Game Booster for some extra performance, it can save up to 50% of the system resources for gaming (that should increase 5~10 FPS)

Game Booster[www.iobit.com]

That's about it, for most of you guys the problem will be solved on the first and second tips.
Tell me if I helped!

:)

No. I've a Thinkpad w530 with a double video systerm, Nvidia Quadro Q1000M. and Intel. Even if NVIDIA is forced to be used, Alan Wake seemingly unable to utilize it - the card runs at nearly idle level. As all other games and high-end graphical modelling, etc applications work perfectly, I'm not going to mess up my system because of a faulty game I bought for 2 euros. R.I.P.

You dont need to mess up your system, just changing the Cards settings to "Let the application decide" solve most of problems with every game with performance problems.

I have a GT 430, It's a 128 bits 2gb ram card very cheap, you can call it "lowend" and yet I can play Alan wake with up to 45 FPS.

The problem is with the game itself, for some reason needs to get the control on your graphic card,

Without checking the "Let the Application Decide" option on my card, i got nothing more that 5 FPS even on the main menu.

There is no upgrade you can do that solve de "Extremely Low Performance" problem on Alan Wake, your Graphic Cards HAVE to be on "Let the Application Decide". It's a game bug.

I have a intel card in my laptop, I've checked my settings. I can run it best on the lowest settings with a little lag every now and then. Not much. But how can I activate let the application decide option on my intel graphics control panel.

Ok, with a chance of letting my newb show, where do I go to make the graphic card setting to "Let the application decide"?

This is false. I have many customized settings in my global profile and Alan Wake runs fine.

If it works for you fine, but it's not the case for everyone.

Depends on your graphic card, NVidia usually add an "NVidia Settings" whe you click with RMB on Desktop.

I believe that AMD Card usually have a Systray icon for that.
