It's perfectly understandable that you might run out of ammo here. But if you take the time to look around for some hidden ammo and weapons, and aim well when firing!, you should be able to get by. Rest assured that no area in this episode (assuming again you're still in Episode 2) is infinite enemy respawn! Here are my tips:
1. Make sure you stock up on revolver ammo in that area you fought Rusty in (In case you didn't see it, there's a bin with an unlimited supply here) before moving forward. And keep in mind that you can come back for more from any point before meeting the kidnapper. So, if you need to, fight a bunch of the Taken and then return here to stock up again before taking on the next batch.
2. Take note that right after crossing the very first bridge, there's a place called "Moonshine Cave" (left-hand path) in which you can find a shotgun and other supplies.
3. Immediately before reaching 'The Great Old One' (the big tree with a sign in front of it), there's a brightly lit gazebo serving as a Safe Haven where you can find another shotgun and shotgun ammo. It's off the main path so you're likely to reach the tree (and the enemies waiting here) before realizing you passed it.
This is all the ammo that you have a reasonable chance of missing. If nothing else, the first tip will ensure you have plenty of ammo to take on the limited number of enemies between the visitor's center and Lover's Peak. Hope this helps! :)
I did indeed see the ammo pile in the place where you fight Rusty. Killed the next two and stocked up before moving on. And where available I have been going back to re-stock where possible also.
Spotted the cave also.
It was the draining the darkness I think was largely my issue, that and imprecise targeting. I have been trying to 'drain' them more now and believe I have much more success using less ammo.
I think something big I missed initially was the: large rock face with the yellow writing (one of which advises hiding your flashlight, achieved behind a rock formation I climbed - to which the particularly troublesome Taken then backed away).
Thanks again for your help though.
If you've been killing them without burning the darkness away first (and without using a flare gun), that's surprising. I've never seen or heard of that being done before.
As I am now more familiar with the combat system and the importance of draining the darkness (the importance of which I missed to some degree having to stop start stop start - tweaking my graphics settings), I find ammo is less of a critical concern.
Flashbangs are particularly useful when I am faced with a large number of Taken.
Just set “-developermode” into the game launch options and get full weapons ans flashlights.
I know it’s cheating, but bro this game is annoying af to take care of every bullet fired at those bastards, plus the combat mechanics are too trash to take them serious, you don’t even have a crosshair like any other TPS/FPS game. Imo the port for PC is not the greatest, this is why I didn’t continue to play it “legit” anymore.
And yo btw, the game turned out to be super enjoyable playing only with flashbangs burning all those bastards so fast.
