I think it will happen eventually but it's probably gonna take a long time -- like 5 years or longer, tbh. Epic has the publishing rights in exchange for funding the game and its going to be years before that contract expires and the publishing rights revert to Remedy. Epic isn't going to allow a Steam release before then.

Just buy it on Epic now while it's on sale, if you want it.

The second DLC was released today so the game is complete and heavily discounted. Now is the time to buy, or are you really that loyal to a company that sells games in Russia and removes anything they don't like. Corporations don't care about you.

Bit off topic, but I'm currently playing the new "Alan Wake 2: The Lake House" DLC and I am finding the enemies to be waaaay more bullet spongy then normal. I'm literally firing a full magazine of six rounds from the 12 gauge into just one of the basic 'shadow' enemies (yes, I did use the flash light first! :thor_lul:) in order to take him down and/or nearly two magazines from the Glock 26.

Surely this can't be right? Previously you could take down an enemy with one or two good placed rounds from the shotgun no problem. There are enemies literally still walking around covered in red with the amount of bullet holes I've put into their heads and chest. Surely this isn't right, as now I only have a couple of rounds left to take the rest in the room on?! :angrboda_thinking:

I guess waiting until the end of this month is still worth it.

Control came to Steam exactly a year later, so we have another 3-4 days as AW2 was release in the 27th October last year.

If its not on Steam within a week I guess we really have to wait another 5 years maybe.

It won't Epic owns distribution rights.

Like others have pointed out. This would be like bringing counter strike to epic.

Think thats going to happen?

Well, looks Remedy bought back right for the Alan Wake Original years later as well. That is why I suggested 5 years.

I mean like... they have another publisher now and I doubt the deal with Epic was "eternal" but limited to a few more years. I doubt the deal was longer than 5 years. Maybe 3-5.

We may not know the length of the Epic deal, but we can make a guess as to the terms; I don't feel like trying to dig it up, but there is an old interview from last year(or early this year?) where Lake(or some other manager) from Remedy was asked in an interview what the terms where with AW2's publishing deal with Epic and they said they couldn't talk about the specific details but said the deal was similar to Control's publishing deal with 505 Games -- and that was a limited time deal(i.e., a few years) with an option to buy back the publishing rights early -- which is what Remedy ultimately did in that situation; they brought back Control's publishing rights early.

(Edit: And since since Epic funded the development, I think it's reasonable to assume there is an extra stipulation in the deal that Epic has to recoup their investment(plus some) before the buy-back option is available. But this is all just speculation on my part anyways.)

It actually will.
We don't know what the deal is, but the latest new in August was that Alan Wake 2 had not even recouped the cost of development.
So it needs to first recoup that cost, then make whatever extra was agreed as Epic's profit, first, then Remedy gets to release it on Steam.

Not as a rule, but generally Publishers that fund the game requires 100% profit first. Meaning, if the game cost 100 mil to develop, it needs to make 200 mil on sales (100 to cover development cost and 100 to profit) before the publisher debit is satisfied and the developer gets to take the game to some other venues. Alan Wake 2 may never get there.

Thanks, sounds reasonable. I hope they reach the 100mil though.

Without specifics we don’t know, by that point no one will really care.
