"In the statement, Remedy says that Alan Wake 2, which had sold 1.3 million copies at last count (thus making it the fastest-selling Remedy game), has "recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses" as of Q1 2024, i.e. not the entirety of said expenses.
However, that hasn't stopped Remedy reporting improved revenue when compared to the same period a year ago; the Finnish studio says its revenue this quarter was 10.8 million euros, representing a 56.2% increase over last year's first quarter."
Remedy is doing fine and the DLC for AW2 will be out soon which will no doubt boost sales in the short term at that point besides. You can bet it'll come to Steam as soon as Remedy's contract expires with Epic.
However, that will be some time after it's support stops(like Saint's Row reboot) plus likely at least a year or two on top bc Epic paid for AW2. That's just my guess anyway. Could be longer. I hope not though, it's a decent game more people could experience.
[Random thought: Epic needs the equivalent of Steam Cards. If I could walk into a store and see a $20 Epic card that I could use to buy games on their store, then I would buy more games on their store. They already have the Fortnite cards or V-Bucks or w/e it is, so it shouldn't that difficult right?]
100% correct.
The answer is when at what cost to the buyer. My issue is I will not be signing up for an EGS account on principle.

This game requires one, and why won't they do the same thing with AW2?

Yep, it appears that going forward, Remedy will not be partnering with Epic Games, and will be joining up with Annapurna instead, who obviously have a massive presence here on Steam!
Great news for us Steam fans! Control 2 and other future Remedy titles just got a lot more exciting for us!
Sadly, it’s not so clear what the implications are for Alan Wake 2.
Epic Games probably still hold exclusivity reins on that particular title until their development costs are recouped at least…or maybe…Epic Games might allow Remedy to release the game on here to accelerate the recouping of their costs.
Time will tell!
Epic Games would need to most likely recoup all their development expenses (possibly others costs too) and then Remedy would need to gain Control (pun intended) to the publishing rights that Epic currently holds for Alan Wake 2.
If those are met, it's definitely a possibility that Remedy could bring it over to Steam then.
That's exactly what they have been doing. It's ironic that msft didn't want to pay them anymore.
