Since Epic doesn't release sales figures, I've been curious about this too. I did find something interesting in this article:
https://www.ign.com/articles/alan-wake-2s-seemingly-dire-sales-dont-paint-the-full-picture

(this is a quote from the article linked above..)
"We can supplement that with a bit more data from Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls, though, to get a clearer picture. Ampere estimates that globally, just on console, Alan Wake 2 sold 850,000 copies as of the end of November."

Assuming that's true, it seems to be selling much better than the first game did....

"On 13 March 2012, Remedy Entertainment announced that the game has passed 2 million copies sold, including Xbox 360 and PC. ..."

The above quote is taken from the Sales section of Alan Wake's wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Wake

So, Alan Wake came out on 14 May 2010 and it took 2 years for it to reach 2 million sales on Xbox 360 and PC vs. Alan Wake 2 selling an estimated 850k in a little over a month just on consoles alone. And ofc, that's before the current holiday sales.

Personally, I'm kinda let down by Alan Wake 2 so far(haven't beat it yet.) I don't have any performance issues or anything. It's just not as fun as the first one, imo.

I'll get the source later. But on a discord channel there are people talking about a GitHub thing where one can use Epic's APIs to see how many people have earned an achievement on EGS. These people were saying by the end of the first month of release, 400k people have earned an achievement on EGS for Alan Wake 2, which would mean about 400k sales of the PC version. If the 850k is close to accurate for consoles, that would be about 1.2 million sales in the first month with the PC having around 33% of those sales out of the 3 platforms the game is on.

I'm asking on the discord for a link to the GitHub thing. I'll post it when I get the answer.
According to this data Alan Wake 2 is Most likely the best selling remedy game. According to what I've found Control got 2 millions in around 15 months, Alan Wake 1 got 2 milions in nearly 2 years and Max payne got 1.6 milion in around 5 years. And the data was before game awards Which probably means an increase in sales, since Alan Wake 2 won the second most awards

You can call it shilling but the problem Epic have is that Steam is a far superior platform in both content and functionality. Most people have years of money put into their Steam accounts and don't want to put money into a vastly inferior launcher - that is how I feel about Epic.

I will take the free games though for sure, it isn't like it is some big ideological stand to not buy on Epic, I just don't like the platform so I wont buy stuff on there the same as I wont buy stuff via Ubisoft or EA etc.

The only exception for me is GOG because their anti DRM model is awesome and I think they deserve the support for that alone.

You know what I mean. Monopolies are bad and so are those who shill for them. If he really wanted the game he could get it, but no, he has to come cry like the little lost soul ♥♥♥♥♥ that he is.

Despicable.

Well sure but if you want to challenge monopolies then you have to give them some valid competition. I would like to try the game but I am not buying it on Epic, simple as that. I will wait until it comes to Steam and if it doesn't... well I will just console myself with the dozens of games I already own that I still really want to play lol

Don't be sad, Alan Wake 2 is absolute garbage. I have played 12 hours so far and 11 hours has just been a walking simulator and only 1 hour is anything interesting happening.

"your trash taste" says the guy having a meltdown because I don't like Boring Walking Simulator 2023. Pure hypocrisy.

Sadly, it's not even a good walking simulator either because the writing is so bad.

Where did I say that I myself don't have a trash taste?

Again, my meltdown, nicely classified by the way, it's not from the existence of your trash taste, everyone has a trash taste, it's from the fact that you little prince, thinks that your trash tase is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ last taste of the universe, and your insignificant opinion matters, and you not even get it that in a post that someone clearly likes the game, your opinion from someone that not like it, means nothing, Get it now?

once more, please don't interact with me.

I didn't check any reviews and bough the game on Epic. Performance wise it is ok and scale well.
Because I didn't check any reviews priror ,I didn't know that they changed the genre of the game, I thought it was same as the first one, an action game. But they turned it into survival horror, I don't like it. I endured myself for 5 hours and decided it was not for me. It's a great quality game who enjoys this genre.

FYI just because Epic games is a publisher of this game does not mean they will be an EXCLUSIVE publisher to this game. It is rare but it happens where games are published by multiple companies if I recall Sierra used to publish games for Valve on consoles but ultimately the games were eventually published by Valve to Steam as well. There's other examples of this but it isn't out of the realm of possibilities that the game could be published by 505 or another company to be put on Steam.

However that being said I don't forsee Epic EVER publishing this game to Steam themselves. I think Sweeney hates Steam (Valve) and considers Valve itself Epic Games biggest competitor. Maybe GOG but even then the inclusion of always online for a single player game is not a good sign. Its mostly on Remedy themselves they are trying to grow past what their products are able to deliver in the short run they're able to get funding for games like Control or Alan Wake 2, I'll live opinions aside for these two games but the budgets on these games are not small and well above a studio like Remedy's punching weight. They have to make garbage deals like they do with companies like Epic and 505 in order to make these kind of games but I don't think it will pan out for them because they're severely alienating their customers and causing distrust with their customers as well when they agree to do things like always online or console exclusive DLC or whatever else for a quick buck.

The ultimate issue is that their games don't sell that well single player games in general don't make the same kind of money that FTP live service hits do and it requires enormous budgets for the games like Elden Ring which can break that threshold. On top of it they make horror and slower paced games which don't have the same mainstream appeal as Souls like or FPS games. Ultimately where Remedy is right now and the deals they make are a consequence of the market.

All that being said as a huge Remedy fanboy who loved everything they did up until Control (and maybe Quantum Break too) I hate the direction of this company, I can't blame them but at the same time I've lost faith in the company, I think they need to reevaluate their business decisions and scope if they want to survive in the future as a game developer because this path I don't believe will be viable for them. Its only a matter of time before they go under with these deals and the budgets they are requiring for the visual wow they are looking for with these games.

At least they have a solid looking engine for future games now but IDK what "new thing" they'll be able to do with it tbh.
