Please don't sour your Alan Wake 2 experience by playing a good game directly before it. Instead play the release version of Todd Howard's new game.
I've had them on Steam for years and played them again earlier this year. You can play without but you would be lost in a lot of it. Being confused from the start would put of most players who haven't played those.
However, there are some (lengthy) Youtube summary videos.
Playing those other games though adds to the experience of AW2. I would highly suggest you play them first.

This one is 9 minutes.
Apparently the Steam version that I own isnct the remastered one. Am I losing anything substantial by not playing the remastered version?
I've decided I'll go Alan Wake --> Alan Wake's American Nightmare --> Alan Wake 2.
So I'll start Alan Wake 1 after I finish with Hogwart's Legacy I'm currently playing. I've also slapped this Reshade preset on the game so I guess I'm good to go.
Thanks for your replies, everyone.
