Alan Wake 2 performance thread
RTX 3080 ti here. Intro area I get 15-18fps maxed out at 1920p, RT/PT on max with DLSS on Quality. 20fps on Balanced. 1440p I get 25-30fps on Quality. With RT/PT off, I get ~35-40fps at 1920p. 1440p (my native resolution) gets me ~50fps. All using Quality DLSS except where I specified using Balanced. Don't even think about running anything at a native resolution. 1440p is extremely blurry and foliage is pixelated with DLSS, even on Quality. 1920p was the best middle ground for picture clarity and performance. Don't even think about 2160p.

All that said, the game looks incredible with or without RT/PT. Of course it looks better WITH, but it still looks like a very top-tier game without. It's just a shame that performance is very poor, despite what settings you use. At best, I was able to get 60-65fps with everything on low-medium and RT/PT disabled.

Alan Wake 2 on PC is laughably bad. The game is bug riddled and badly optimized.

You will get 16 time the 1fps with that card.

Game runs fairly smooth with everything maxed if you use DLSS quality. Stays at a solid 60fps with very minor dips when entering an area. Though do note I have a Ryzen 7900X.

I'm not denying anything. But this response went from technical to personal. Completely unnecessary. A good comment invalidated by a personal attack. Geez, when will people learn.

I don't know why the media seems to be trying to sell this game as a technical marvel, the optimization is on par with basically any other AAA game, which is just abysmal.

You are trying to tell me a 3070 having to rely on DLSS to get 60fps at 1080 with almost everything on LOW is a properly optimized game? I'm playing it, I see how the game looks, does it look good? Sure does, does it look THAT good? It really doesn't.

Good to know, though I don't like the sound of dips even with such a card

13 hours in with no bugs and it runs and looks better than Cyberpunk and most other AAA games released this year

Guys, regardless of your opinions on AW2's performance, I think we can all agree that this discussion makes more sense on the EGS forums than on the steam forums, where the game was actually launched and will likely live forever, yeah?

Maybe Reddit?

It's hard to find actual AW1 posts to begin with and now with AW2 troubleshooting and performance posts and everything that frankly belong on EGS it's even harder.

I took your advice in my thread and the EGS forums are dog garbage. Nothing but Unreal engine posts. This is why people post here concerning AW2, it is just more convenient.

-That's disappointing but how is EGS supposed to get better and "offer competition to valve" unless people go there and actually use their stuff? This forum was flooded with people crapping on Valve because "Monopoly bad" and fluffing EGS for financing Alan Wake 2 only to come crawling back to the Steam Forums?

As someone who does believe actual competition between storefronts will ultimately be good for the end user, it would be nice to see EGS actually compete on being a storefront for once...

Id still say post your question on the EGS forums, I doubt EGS employees come to Steam looking for stuff to patch etc.

My last comment on this but they have had 5 years to "catch up" and the fact their forums don't even have game based sections like steam does says a lot. I will leave it at that.

R7 5800x
32GB RAM
RTX 3080 12GB

I play with these settings
1440p
DLSS Quality

High Preset
Medium Raytracing
Low Path Tracing

I get 45 FPS in the forest areas, I get 60FPS in town.

i could get a lot more if I remove all raytracing, but nah, I enjoy the better graphics, the game doesn't need 60FPS anyways to be very enjoyable.

Also haven't seen a single bug in the game yet after about 7 hours of play.

On my 4090 everything was running at 100fps maxed/4k with FG on quality but I just got to the bit after you put the heart through the sign and now dropping into the 40's. Jesus, the optimisation of this game is horrific.

That's exactly what happened to me it was the red light, right at 3441440P medium/low FSR at quality was around 70fos before that then straight down to the 40s there a couple places with that bad performance & them there's random places that run like 3times better I was at 90fps at one point while useing RT reflections on a dang RX6800 let that sink in that should not even be posible the performance of different locations is insane like parts are optimized then other oarts were never optimized.

Once you get to the indoor type areas that are not in the forrest in the open, your FPS on the 4090 will jump above 120s, I can even run FG Quality, Max, 4k with full RT with path tracing and my FPS will hang around 90-100fps
