Similar narrative games like this?
Just recently finished Alan Wake. Was hard as hell and I decided to cheat half way through and still don't regret it. Just found out, that I started it on hard. Easy is still kinda hard but it's an 2010 Remedy game and feels like the Max Payne nightmare levels.

The story telling and story in general kept me hooked. Honestly, this game is the most frightening I've ever played. Not a fan of the gameplay (clunky, wonky etc.) but it fits. Loved Max Payne back in the days and also played Max Payne 3. Quantum Break was also pretty damn good, Control is not really my Cup of Tea.

So if there are any similar games you can suggest, just let me know. And yeah, also played the goofy cousin Deadly Premonition.

Max Payne games (from the same creator) are and action but has narrative in well performed noir esque comic strips. Spec Ops The Line is very good at telling a story too.

I beat you heard of Quantum Break, it's the game from the same guys that made this one.

I can recommend a amazing game that is narrative like this one but it is about 10x scarier than this one. If you have never played a full on horror game check out SOMA. The story and graphics are just as engaging as this game. Just be warned: SOMA is horrifying (but totally worth it)

I was very dissapointed with soma and stopped playing after a few hours, its just a ordinary walking simulator and nowhere near the quality of alan wake (only my personal opinion). The last good new horror game i can remember was "song of horror" but it has a perma death mechanic which can be turned off but then the game looses a lot of tension.
I played Spec Ops The Line and even visited the Yager HQ once for playtesting Dreadnought, very nice people and awesome game. Played SOMA as well. I don't know why these strange horror games have so amazing story's. But it fits SOMA. In the end you feel the dread you "left" behind. Finished the American Nightmare and will keep playing Control until I reach the AWE DLC on my PS5. Control feels like a chore. But thanks for the suggestions. And if you haven't Cyberpunk 2077 has a decent story with your first playthrough, if you start a 2nd run, you will see the huge flaws and story gaps.

Haven't played this yet but Control by the same studio is great and I think that has caused a lot of people to go and play Alan Wake. The are in the same universe as well. I think Control might even be on sale at the moment....

An absolute must play. Set in the same universe as Alan Wake. Made by Remedy. It's fairly cheap and a steal when on sale. Quantum Break explains why the world of Alan Wake is the way it is and that story continues in Control. A brilliant trilogy of games.

There aren't many games at the narrative level of Alan Wake.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a classic and probably the best of game of its type. But theres virtually no gameplay to it.

Outlast is really good. Not as narratively strong but still pretty interesting. Can't speak for the sequel, haven't played it.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was ok. Very short, only about 4 hours to complete.

The original Dead Space and Bioshock both have really good stories, but there's more gameplay there than with the others I mentioned. They're more traditional action games with rpg elements.

Sure played them. Still have my PS3 copy with the little Origami Bird which came with it. Between two Souls was ok, Fahrenheit/Indogo Prophecy also a blast but can't warm up to Detroit become Human. Started it so many times but it wasn't that fascinating.
And just for you, if you wan't a wicked story, try NieR Replicant and NieR Automata. Is more action orientated but the story is truly one of a kind. Don't get fooled by the sexy androids tho, looks kinky, is kinky in some parts but the story is really deep.

I dunno, I'd say give Control another shot. That game roped me in completely. Besides, it's basically a sequel to Alan Wake... if you get the DLC, you even get to see Alan himself, and you get to fight a boss taken directly from Alan Wake!

Probably the best environmental story experience I've had in a game, and that's after 40-ish years of gaming. And yeah, it can be hard, so cheat if you want to. I did. It made the whole "super powers" aspect of the game shine even brighter for me.

Hello fellow comrade, yeah I am playing Control currently to get to the AWE DLC, finished it once but lost my save files due to a HDD change. Alan Wake wasn't hard per se, it was weird. Missed so many shots, controls felt a little wonky. There's an option which turns on direct controls and this worked for me and I was able to finish Alan Wake even on harder difficulties without cheating. Even pre-ordered the remaster for PS5.

For me, Remedy is kind of cursed. They can do great gameplay or great story telling but not both at the same time.
