Any way to make it run widescreen with low resolution?
Had to force it to go 800x600, since this port sucks and this game is way more demanding than it should. Black bars on the side of the screen are really annoying and immersion breaking, specially for a horror game. Is there any way to make it widescreen?

This game is unbelievably demanding for its looks. Probably because it has MSAA forced into the game engine

Yeah, I figured. I ended up having to play like that through the entire game, lol. Still a fun experience, but dang, this port is trash.

If you can't run this video game your gpu is trash. People should stop buying laptops thinking they can game.

I just love how steam users on these forums think that everyone, everywhere can afford a good pc just like that. "Huh?? Your pc doesn't run X game??? Silly, you should've bought a better one!!". This isn't helpful, and its not like I already knew that this problem would have been solved by simply having a better rig. Of course Alan Wake will run on a beefy computer, for obvious reasons, but its still a game from 11 years ago, and it should run much better on average rigs. I'm not demanding it to run at 4k 60fps, but its very apparent that it was a game made with consoles in mind, and they didn't do a very good job with porting it to pc (not just because of the performance).

In any case, I made this post over a year ago. Got a slightly better pc since.

The game was released on PC in 2012 and there you were in 2020 with a computer that could not play an Eight year old game... I love how people make excuses. Why are you even PC gaming if you are using hardware that can't even play old games? You should be making better hardware choices. The game is available via xbox game pass which allows you to play old games on their newer consoles. You had better options to enjoy the game.

And on the same pc, here I am playing Metal Gear Solid V, a game that launched ~5 years ago, looks much better, and I'm running it in almost maxed out settings at a constant 60fps.

You really never heard of something called optimization?

Many people don't have issues running the game, but they tend to have proper PC gaming hardware.
I bet even thte steam deck could run AW without issues. https://www.steamdeck.com/en/

My Ryzen 3400G APU runs this "ultrawide" 1920x800 about average 45 fps mixed settings.
Only little detail is that game runs on Proton/ Ubuntu. Very playable.
