Stuck on Reach Lover's Peak
I get to a part where it goes to a cut scene where 4 enemies attack, one coming through an opening saying "Through Tree" but I only have 12 bullets and just keep getting surrounded, I run out of flashlight and have to change batteries and just get hit from every direction.

Tried this part at least a dozen times with the same outcome, so anyone give any tips on how I get through this as I don't have enough bullets and every time I try to run to the nearest light I just get taken out in exactly the same way?

Sorry, got my encounters mixed.. right before that is the one with the generator and the light that goes out just as you approach it, and then you have to restart it with possibly several enemies bearing down on you.

The next area with the Through Tree part is even easier, IF you can survive and get around the big guy and the two smaller ones that spawn there. The pool of light is just beyond there, and these two sequences back to back are just easier for me to NOT try and kill all the enemies. I just use the flashlight to momentarily stun them, make them break stride, then I'm continuing on and dodging if necessary.
+1
Dodge, stun and run. Don't try to take them on

I tried the 'going back' trick and found batteries, ammo and a shotgun in the Moonshine cave. I then went back to the platform with the light near the tree with a hole in it, but when I get killed, which is often, the goodies I collected are no longer available. It's as if I never went back.
I always thought the light saved the game automatically.

Well, it's almost impossible to kill them all in this location, before you reach a next checkpoint. You should run to the light behind the "Through Tree". But it will take some maneuvering to pull enemies off that passage first. Use the fleshlight to slow them down, but don't try to make them vulnerable.
USE THE......... WHAT??!!

Well, after a crowd at the through-tree, there's a rambling trail, then a bridge then a generator light: After the through-tree, possibly infinite more spawn on the rambling trail behind it. I played this one probably 5 times before I watched video on evading. (EVADING, not all together SKIPPING like the pathetic poster linking a speed run below.) Do not pass this area with low ammunition or batteries, because once you go over the bridge at the bottom and start a generator, you can't get them back by dying. I don't think. There are several videos on this next group because it tests your faith in your ability to continue. Either weak-faith or good decision making skills about how you spend your time ;-)

Edit: oh, heehee, he said "fleshlight", I get it now.

Do not watch this and do it -- that is, skip the entire thru-tree and mini-boss past the bridge -- unless you have wasted enormous time RESTARTING and going through the entire episode again so that you have sufficient ammo and batteries and STILL can't get past them, like I did. Worse still, by some bug my re-spawn point was at the trail head, 5-10 minutes upstream. This link will take you to the time index in question:

Edit: Start watching at time index: 25:11 to go from hill-top wooden shelter to the bridge skipping the thru-tree,
or at 25:54 the bridge before the really difficult part

https://youtu.be/Q-wIRuYyb9Q?si=J2X7i1xIlPHzurZ6&t=1511

If the link is broken read my spoiler:
Just before the thru-tree, go to the wooden shelter and go to at the right of the steps, at the corner of the base, and jump thru the brush. Walk to the right along the cliff, there is a spot you can jump down without dying that goes to the bridge. (major number of taken SKIPPED) Cross the bridge, pass the generator light going dark, pass the picnic area a ways and see a fence through the trees on the right. This triggers the guys! Run and jump over the third section of fence from the boulder, evade/kill ONE taken and go RIGHT to get the stuff. (I missed this, so maybe bad idea) Go back jumping around the one-way (maybe not) gated fence. Easy riding from here.

Hey thanks for your help, I pretty much lost interest and moved on long ago. I liked the game but I got totally stuck here and never played it again. I don't honestly know if I will get to it again as I simply have too many games I need to play that I have yet to get to.

For some reason this thread keeps getting resurrected even though it was 3 years ago lol

This thread has has a lot of great tips. It's nice of you to thank all the new posters, but I think it is still helping others. (I have edited since you quote BTW, you are so fast!)

I know how you feel. I stopped playing for a couple weeks after this snag, but the darkness pulled me back in before I had chance to uninstall. ;-) At this point, I either uninstall or start looking at walk-through's because I am probably missing something time consuming and the game is still enjoyable even with instructions. (feed the golden pickle to the golden boss, DUH!) After that I continue to watch the walk-thru AFTER I hit a snag and that way I have a hope of actually getting to the end.

Speed-runs similar, except often they are using bugs that might be fixed in the current version of the game -- not quite as fun. Not so in this speed run, as they are not bugs or glitches, just hidden gaps and short cliffs.

Hey no worries, if the thread helps others who got stuck here etc then I think that is a great thing!

But yeah, I really did like the game but I can be really impatient at times and I lost my patience at this point in the game. Subsequent to playing this game I became a big fan of the souls games and of course this made me appreciate a challenge more than I did. So its unfortunate I played the game back when I did as I probably would have persevered more these days.

Like I said, I may still try it again at some point but again, thanks for taking time out of your day to help others. I always appreciate people who do selfless things like this :)

Even though I played the original and finished it, I was stuck at this bit when playing Remastered and gave up for a while before going back to it and finally figuring it out. First off, I had forgotten that I don't need to constantly have my finger on the right-mouse button in order to burn off their cloaks (?) before shooting them. Pointing the torch at them is sometimes enough.

Here's how I did it. Walk to the spot where they spawn and turn around and run back to the other side of the boulders (otherwise I kept getting stuck by them), then turn and face the ghouls while walking backwards - use the shift button to dodge their throwing axes. Try to direct the torchlight at them and they will cover their eyes and slow down. If their cloak falls off then shoot them. Keep walking backwards picking them off one by one, the smaller ones with the pistol and the larger one with the shotgun - if you have it. If you go backwards far enough there is a generator and a light that you can go into and they will go away. Move forwards until they respawn and then walk backwards again, picking them off one by one until they are all defeated. The area is then clear and there is a checkpoint just past Through Tree. Jump over the boulders next to the closed gate to proceed to the next checkpoint.

I started off with 2 batteries, 13 pistol rounds and 3 Shotgun cartridges and had 2 batteries and 1 of each ammo left at the end.

If you can get back to the brightly lit pagoda near the Lover's Peak signs, grab the shotgun and ammo from the bench. Once you make it down to the generator with the green light, turn it on so you've got an extra light source. Stun and shoot the enemies, and don't forget to use Cinematic Dodge. Re: the baddies that sneak up behind you, you'll hear a WHOOSH a half-second before the guy swipes you with his axe. When you dodge in time the camera slows down. You'll get extra health for this. Keep sprinting and dodging to the next lighted area. Use trees and rocks to hide behind and heal. I tried to get through the kidnapper section with a flashlight only, but didn't make it. You'll need some flares too. Brutal Deluxe above has good suggestions, and check out https://www.gamesradar.com/alan-wake-tips/.
