Game crashes after Remedy logo?
I just built a new PC and installed the game. To my surprise, it won't load past the Remedy logo on startup - as soon as the logo finishes playing the game just closes itself (no message that it stopped working, no freezing, just terminated). Has anyone else had this issue and how did you fix it?

EDIT: Things I've tried already are restarting my computer, re-installing the game, and disabling the Remedy logo video clip by renaming the file. Also "checked the integrity of the files" via Steam.

EDIT 2: Now this is bizarre. I just went back to my old computer that I finished the game on and was running fine a few months ago, and it crashes in the exact same spot. What is going on?

I'm having same issue, if it doesn't crash there it crashes at random places during gameplay

I think it might be an issue with my copy of the game. I have installed it on three separate computers (two with Windows 10, one with Windows 7. All using different hardware) and the issue has existed on all three of them.

games on steam don't work as copies unless there's something wrong with the files or the game itself. have you tried deleting all your alan wake files and then verifying cache?

I have, multiple times. On three different computers as well. That's why I'm contacting Valve because the only connection between those three installations of the game is my account.

Could it not be that there is an issue with your cloud save? Apparently the save is stored in the cloud. I could not find any option to prevent it because my global setting is off...

I deleted all saves in my actual game files so that the game should have booted it up with no previous info to go off of. I also turned cloud save syncing off, I believe.

That cloud sync setting does not work at all. Don't ask me why. Deleting the files locally does not mean that those in the cloud are deleted either.

But in order to exclude that cloud save issue;can you check the event viewer? Launch Alan Wake and let it crash. Then on desktop; do "Windows key" -> "Event viewer" -> a window opens -> application logs -> look for errors around the time of the crash. What does it say?

In the "General" tab for the crash, it says:

the rl_sf_Win32.dll is made by Remedy. Why it crashes is difficult to guess since the event log did not reveal enough information about that. Usually it gives a small pointer to the cause but it does not here. That means that something unexpected happened leading to the crash. A crash dump might reveal more information.

Try to delete that rl_sf_Win32.dll first. Then launch alan wake. If it is unable to launch, then it is a key component, so that you have to use the verify cache feature to restore it.

Did you have gotten a reply from Valve?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
