Alan wake the best game I have ever played in 16 years
What more can I say about this awesomely good, well acted, crafted and written digital art piece.
Unlike most other games in various genres, which are nothing substantiative but simply are carbon copies of each other, despite not being related....Alan Wake is simply original.

The creators inspiration from major authors such as Koontz and King is clear, however this does not infringe on the game's uniqueness and originality.

I would imagine that like most players when first playing the game, the author Stephen King comes to mind. the game starts of very well.Alan's nightmare, before waking up in Bright-Falls,
was to me very effective. From there the central narrative focus begins and the players is swept up in essense a living, breathing interactive novel, complete with the mysterious unsettling beauty of rural, wooded and mountainous rustic North America, interesting and complicated characters, and a frankly well crafted unique villian - the taken.

There is a sense of repetitiveness at times, but these are far and few between.

No other game has captured, me or held me interest as much as Alan Wake, It is in essense, probably one of only a couple of games that I have truly enjoyed from start to finish and through replaying. This is unlikely to change in the near future as well.

The novel- Alan Wake, which is based on this game is a very good read but is a novelisation of the game so gameplay comes before reading, in addition the two digital graphic novels - Psycho Thriller and Night Springs are very good.

The two DLCS, while frustrating at times are intriging and enjoyable to play and serve to tell of Alan Wake trapped in the Dark Place

I could say so much more, but I shall leave it there.

Overall I would award this game a 13/10 for all areas of the game.

Does anyone else agree.

It's definitely up there for me. I've put 27 hours into this game according to steam. The game had me gripped from start to finish

Really good stuff. Wish Remedy focused on a sequel instead of the bs they're doing now.

It's a long time ago since I played, definetely one of the greater games out there. What did held it back for me was that the Taken combat was a bit too common and near the end they were rather overwhelming. It's a shame there aren't that many well written games out there.

I really enjoyed this game, played it through twice, then the DLC and American Nightmare. It just has a sense of place that you don't find very often. A lot of people complain about the combat, and it can get a bit repetitive, but I think the devs did a good job of creating lots of different locations that force the player to come up with new tactics to survive.

Im gonna have to replay this game on the weekend. But im gonna wipe every single file of Alan wake off my PC. The one thing I dont like about replaying this game is that the manuscript pages are still in your list on a replay. Can you play nightmare right off the bat? It's been so long since i've played it.

I just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game. And yeah, as said above people say the combat was repetitive, and I understand why. But i was so hooked by this game every moment of action was just intense. Every weapon felt like it packed a punch and the sound design was awesome.

If there was one section I could say I disliked. It would be the section when you're crossing a bridge and all the debris was flying at you. I remember getting my ass kicked.

Remedy knocked it out the park with this game. This and Max Payne 2 are up there with my favourites of all time

American nightmare was also awesome. I was so happy when I got enough manuscript pages to unlock the m16. It was a tad short, but a great addition. kasabian ftw

Pretty sure you have to unlock nightmare mode by completing a playthrough first. And I agree about the bridge. I don't mind a challenge, but dying on that thing got old fast.

I will say that the reason I find Alan Wake the best game I have played in 16 years is that again it is story driven, unique and ultra creative and also very beautiful to look at amongst other things. And believe me I have played many other game series from the Arkham series, many Star Wars games Bioshock1-3, Age of Empires, Fallout series and Anno 2070 and Alien Isolation and the AVP series etc.

Those games are very good when once or twice played.
However I can honestly say that Alan Wake is the only game thatI have truly and honestly once in a lifetime enoyed and been able to hold my attention throughtout as though new.
that said the Tomb Raider series (2013 onwards), is also very eye pleasing and story driven).

To sum up.. I just can't over how much I have enjoyed playing Alan Wake.

Setting and atmosphere in this game is incredible, it's super hard to pin point what exactly I enjoy so much about it, I like the gameplay, I don't find it repetitive at all, I love finding the tvs and watching episodes of night springs, I love listening to the radio broadcasts, the driving sections are pretty rad, music is incredible...it's just an awesome game, it's very unique as well which I appreciate.

Too bad we wont see a legit sequel tho... Loved this game on 360 was really happy to rebuy it years later on PC.

Very unique game very well done only the combat was an issue "repetitive".

Theres a config tweak to unlock nightmare mode without beating the game. Ive done it before because of already playing it on 360 years before PC release.

Yeah, better than the sum of its parts. If you're being unkind you could describe the whole game as a hallway shooter, but the story and setting really elevate it. American Nightmare also added more weapon and enemy variety, showing they were aware of the first game's shortcomings. Have yet to play Quantum Break but I hope Alan Wake gets revisited someday.

When I played it, the only thing that came to mind was the "Silent Hill" series, which pretty much set the mold, and still does, for this kind of games. The main character in the game may be a nod to Stephen King, but we all know "Silent Hill" is the true influence here. Scary forests, scary rooms and houses, scary visions, ghostly enemies, etc. are all familiar elements by now owing to the SH games.

Definitely a top 5 game of all time for me.

Definitely. It's my first responding to a comment on Steam by I had to becauyse here in May of 2019 to your claim still stands. I just played through AW & AWAN + the DLC. I've done this multiple times over the years and I did it again this past week. One questions: do you know of any other games this rich in story and world-building? I've spent serious time in Rapture and Columbia (Bioshock + BSI) Raccoon City (Resident Evil) but am very open to any suggestions you might have for other horror-survival games. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have! :)
