how to fix crashes
most crashes in this game have something to do with vsync or vertical sync. in general, all vsync does is make it so your computer doesn't make more frames than it can display when turned of. and when turned off your computer will make more frames than you can show.

for whatever reason, when vsync is turned on in this game it causes the game to crash or break.

tl;dr turn off vsync to stop crashes

I've completed the game twice just recently and had zero crashes while v-sync was constantly on, so it's something on end, probably drivers or worse - Windows 10.

i bought alan wake on sale two weeks ago. i didn't have any problems crashing until i played about 30 hours. then it wouldn't stop crashing. only thing i did to fix it after looking up lots of info was disable vsync

I mean it really depends on config since I had no crashes at all (and I played at work and alt-tabbed a lot), maybe it was a system update or C++ library update that started causing this issue.
I am just implying that v-sync couldn't possibly be a sole reason for the game to crash, there usually has to be something else. It's not a lake. It's an ocean :D
