Gith Reproduction vs Logic
If the gith reproduce asexually, then why are there two sexes? Does not compute.

What do you mean..why? Are there species I am unaware of that require a 3rd sex? I know there are real world asexual examples. I have been playing DnD since the late ‘70s and there has never been more than 2 sexes involved in reproduction. I don’t understand what you are trying to say?
Apparently yes

I mean, 10 seconds on Google will pull up scientific sources on it. I'll give you the easier to read source, Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizophyllum_commune

"It has a tetrapolar mating system with each cell containing two genetic loci (called A and B) that govern different aspects the mating process, leading to 4 possible phenotypes after cell fusion. Each locus codes for a mating type (a or b) and each type is multi-allelic: the A locus has 9 alleles for the a type and an estimated 32 for its b type, and the B locus has 9 alleles each for both its a and b types. When combined this gives an estimated 23,328 potential mating type specificitie"

Biologically speaking there can only be male or female. I am unaware of any species that requires more than two sexes to reproduce even in Forgotten Realms.

Myconids, because they are mushroom people.

And also is overly happy about not laying eggs, cause if she could reproduce no more sex all the time without side effects so clearly not fully asexual in the game

The fact remains that Gith are still represented by Male and Female sexes even if their reproduction has become ‘magically’ asexual. They are clearly not a deviant species of myconid.

The Gith are biologically asexual, but they can still have mental preferences and desires.

In the same way that self identifying as being asexual doesn't give you the ability to spontaneously impregnate yourself.

The ability to reproduce if we go by stuff in the game is a mutation some female githyanki get others don't

I am well aware of the lore, but its not how the game comes off on them, they are also just mutated humans in the end who where genetically engineered by the mind flyers to be perfect slaves :P

The shu'kyani are the egg-layers, and are just whoever lays the eggs. Then they bounce back to the Astral, leaving the Creche to be the parents.

No word on what the Githzerai do.

Considering the size of the eggs I assume they're some manner of large-sized third sex capable of egg-laying 😅

Maybe the eggs start off smaller? Maybe it's like a raffle or lottery and you just get a letter in the mail telling you to go lay an egg in some dimension that has time, idk.

To bad we did not get to see this bad boy in the game for the gith https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Githyanki?file=Planar_raider-3e.jpg

A: they are neuter until gestation and will become female for that period and revert back to neuter after.

The gith were originally an evil human race until they were genetically manipulated by the mind flayers, they were 2 sexes. After manipulation they are now asexual and are born with only female genitalia but not they are not developed.

Unlike their mammalian ancestors, githyanki reproduce by laying eggs. Because biological processes temporarily stop for those on the Astral, the githyanki must travel to other planes to breed, normally the Prime Material Plane. During the gestation the Gith's sex will become female and develop mammary glands and shift hormones to female. After their female stage they will slowly revert back to neuter. They will look male, but they are sexless.

Since it was impossible to age while in the Astral Plane, githyanki needed to hatch their eggs and raise their young in other planes of existence until they reached maturity. This difficulty, added with the githyanki's extremely long lifespan while in the Astral, led to a very low birth rate. Their favored locations to raise and train young githyanki were hidden crèches located in remote places of the Prime Material Plane. There, caretakers known as varsh were responsible for hatching the eggs and collectively raising the young. The length of an egg's stay in the Material Plane was timed carefully so that all eggs in a clutch hatched simultaneously. There are no families in githyanki society.

You ever seen the size of a Kiwi's eggs? They don't grow over time. That poor bird has to actually lay them that big.

Which is why the one egg delaying in the batch is critical was time for them to be moving on soon and they would have destroyed the last of the eggs so they could relocate. Always the right choice to grab the egg in the game

I wonder how giths were able to put those eggs before, though, they are huge!
