whats the point from bard?
doing my third playthrough as karlach wanted try play as bard on her wanna do good run doing good deeds cuz thats what karlach would do and you got alot of unique dialogs for bard but is that the only reason to play bard? for dialog choices? becuz when it comes to everything else they are just kinda garbage i know they are jack of all trades thats why i dont excel at anything i am dual wield but also shooting bows and using some dmg spells and buffs basically i do everything decent but it feels insanely underwhelming that im thinking to just change my class to something actually useful

Bards excel at dialogue choices, really.

As a Bard, I didn't fight a single optional Thorm boss in the 2nd act, I talked them all to death. And this was without save-scumming to get nat 20s on rolls or anything like that. Just the Friends cantrip and occasional inspiration re-roll.

If you're looking to do max-damage in combat and that's what you find fun, you're playing the wrong class.

Slashing Flourish is very special. Plus a CHR focus wins the hearts and minds.
Bards are amazing, particularly swords bards cross classing.
Depends on what you wanna do I mixed my karlach with swords/paladin the maneuver attacks offer some utility either defense or striking 2 foes at once, sometimes even pushing.
Put thay amulet on her so she gets max heals, so she is a solid tank easy to keep up.
Although all classes are solid in some respect so that.

A valor bard, despite being slightly bugged, can prebuff before combat each companion with an inspiration that can not only increase attack but also damage and AC (but for the latter two, then you have to use shove action to clear the ability otherwise, it gets stuck).

A bard can be tanky and excellent support. It can also cast 6th level spells.

The bard and the rogue are the two classes wih expertise, so it can excel in certain skill checks.

I hired a bard in Icewind Dale to give me a buff and a quest for a sword, I didn't need him anymore

Sword bards are great to multiclass with because of the high damage special moves and the spell slots they give, which are incredibly useful for paladin smites. They'd be a bit feeble as a single class though.

My last play through was with a couple of 6 fighter, 2 paladin (mostly for divine smite) and 4 sword bards. After being hasted at the start of each fight, these guys were carving through the bad guys in one hit.

Sword bards are obviously superb right now but I have a preference for lore bards. I not only get the dialogue (and other ability) check advantages but also the control/support character which I enjoy playing. Different strokes for different folks though.

I don't believe this for pure classes. I might believe it for multi-class.

I like my MC fighter, but there is no way he could solo all boss fights.

College of lore bard with a level in life cleric is an amazing control and healer. 2 levels into warlock with lore bard also amazing spell caster. Pure swords bard will out perform most fighters until late game but then you can use more cross classes to outclass them.

Bards are honestly one of the best classes in the game. You might just need to learn to build it better

i tried a bard myself on honor, switched him to barbarian by the time i reached lvl 5.
Feels like a useless terrible class.

So, my dragonborn custom-tav bard El Vis, who played through the game, says hello. It's a blast. I really enjoy being a bard. Sure, people say it's a support class, and it does have support functions, like bardic inspiration and song of rest. I gotta admit I love his quips when he does Vicious Mockery, especially in his weird faux-British accent. They are often the best at Persuading in dialogue due to skills and CHA, usually have good skills overall (I barely used my Astarion rogue skills with my bard, he was disarming traps just fine on his own) ... but no, not useless in combat, not by far.

The bard spell list is tailored toward spells that do enchantment, some illusion, and when it comes to damage, sonic/thunder spells. There's nothing quite like watching you make the enemy dance like an idiot and not fight back. Or fall on the ground laughing, helpless. Or personally my favorite, taking control of their minds and dominating them.

I kinda think the thunder effect is from banging his drum really loudly. "LOL". And what spells they get improve even better if you have the 5E spells addon, as they can get a lot of psychic/mind-damage spells like the Psychic Lance which again I think fits the class. Bard magic tends to attack the mind and heart of the opponent. This is without even getting into Magical Secrets, where if you want a Lore bard can just as well pick up Fireball, or anything else.

A swords bard gets those really neat flourishes, and if you find the right mods, you can have the best of both worlds, and all I will say on that, "LOL". Lately, I've been trying out some other bard custom mod subclasses, like College of Spirits (they get "Tales from Beyond" which are additional abilities; I would LOVE this if the Tales were not random), or the College of Creation, which can summon an animated singing/dancing sword to fight alongside.

Maybe it was because I played in the way back when the Bard's Tale. But it's one of my favorite classes.
