Heavy armor

I've not played this game since my first play through a long while ago because I've been waiting for paladin. At that time there was only a couple heavy armor available in early access, and some not even till near the end of EA. Now that paladin has released have they added more options for heavy armor? I hate to come back and get into it only to find no heavy armor and have to make a dex paladin.

The only heavy amor the game has is the chain mail sold at the goblin camp and the adamantine splint mail at the Forge. You can rush goblin camp and get the chain mail. No other armor/weapon/shield released.

That's what I was afraid of. Awesome job by the devs releasing paladin with little to no heavy armor 🤡 guess I'll be waiting to play till launch. Thanks

Chain mail can drop yes. I got one from clearing the chappel.

It kinda makes sense that you wouldn't find heavy armor in the place where act 1 takes place, but it's still incredibly lame that we can't get heavy armors or shields. A Paladin or Fighter without Heavy gear is like a Ranger without a Longbow.

I get that in BG1 the Wilderness wasn't littered with Full Plates either but... still.

It's not really a big thing, not like you need it anyway. Just steal Lae's armor, it's enough.

Thing is though is that chain mail is supposed to be the default starting equipment for Paladins.

There is a chain mail you can get from the bulding on fire, close to the gnolls. You can get there quite fast. Not optimal as youd rather start with 1 ofc seeing you are a paladin . I mean in the tutorial alot of different people got snagged its not strange to think that there would be at least a chain mail around at least.

Heavy armor is the most cost-prohibitive armor and reasonably the rarest. Expect to see it more and more as you progress, but it's bound to be more common through the second tier of play (levels 5-8) than the first, where proficiency bonuses and ability modifiers are still in the +4-6 range and players will miss 60-75% of the attacks they make at those targets wearing plate. There is still plenty of opportunity for your character to improve as the game goes! But yeah, studded leather is pretty limited to the drow gear and medium armor has a distinct lack of breastplates, so you're not alone. These are things to look forward to in the full release!

(And hopefully we get lots of variety between the different looks for armor—and weapons—of different qualities!)

Ringmail (worst heavy armor) is available in the Forest Ruins at the begining of the game on one of the Looters. If you are playing a -dex fighter, paladin, or cleric this is the best armor for you since medium armor will have a -1 ac due to dex tying it with Halfplate and beating all other medium armor for your character.

Chainmail can be found in the goblin camp (merchant) or in the underdark

Admantine Splint Armor can be found in the Grymforge late act 1 area.

I love how people justify the lack of heavy armor in the game as a factor of how that zone would actually be, but then ignore that some classes (fighter & paladin) should be defaulting their character with heavy armor and the smith in the druid's grove with the barely function forge can spit out +1 scale armor every day, which matches the best AC for medium armor.

I mean they will justify anything for the almighty Larian in their eyes. But yeah it's dumb. But also D&D in the hands of WotC has gone to lengths to make the game more minimalist again.

That's not true, you can loot ringmail (often in the dank crypt).

The only (non-magical) heavy armor worth wearing is platemail, and I haven't found any yet.
