Half-elf is the most popular race, because it looks good and has great passives.
High elf half elf gets an extra cantrip. Wood elf half elf gets movement speed, and drow half elf get dancing lights cantrip, faiery fire, and darkness spells.
I recommend Drow.
Githyanki is quite powerful, but I never could get used to their appearance.
Forest Elves are great with their movement speed.
Personally, I like halfling for sorc since it's super rare to roll a nat 1 due to their passive.
If you want a tanky sorcerer, consider Tempest Cleric 1 / Storm Sorcerer 11. You get heavy armour and shield, and incredible mobility. Making it a very comfortable playthrough.
Races really don't matter in this game and are mostly cosmetic outside of a few specific choices for specific things.
as many said before , race is not a key factor, however you do want to lookat race passives that may or not may help you
like wood elf for extra movement and resistant to sleep etc
and another thing is would you go pure class or multi
If you choose DRACONIC BLOODLINE sorc, you can combo it with Dragonborn.
Githyanki are fun, but i prefer them as melee fighters.
Sylvan Half-elf gets increased movement speed and stealth proficiency, human gets better carrying capacity and 1 free skill, which makes it easier to cover all of the CHA skills.
