I bought this game years ago in early access. There were no black and purple boxes in the landscape. Now there is. This glitch is infuriating. Why hasn't it been fixed yet? I can't be the only one with this problem. PLEASE FIX THIS.

And YES. My drivers are updated.

Sounds like a driver issue, no problems here.

Generally visual glitches like this are an issue with your display device or are driver specific. I'd run with the assumption that its something on your end, and work on finding a solution that works for you.

(The post is still useful, as there might be someone out there who had a similar problem and found a fix :) But a plea to the development team to 'fix' your problem will probably accomplish nothing.)

most boxes stems from textures not loading correctly, its often either driver, hard disk or graphics card related.

Might not even be a driver issue. If your GPU is failing it can cause artifacts in games.

have you tried switching from Vulkan to DX11 or vice-versa?

this sort of thing is usually textures failing to load.

video card overheat, insufficient video memory, driver glitch, hardware glitch, game bug, in rough order of likelihood.

i hear the latest nvidia drivers are a bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in general.

Make sure your chipset drivers are up to date and see if your GPU is not on its last legs.

Usually Purple and Black squares are missing textures, although you may have downloaded all of the files the ones involving THAT specific terrain got corrupted or something. I would try verifying the steam files, see if that fixes it and if it doesn't try a fresh install. If neither of those work play around with your nvidia or amd control panels to make sure the games are optimized how they should be based on your computers ability.

Did you have the game installed before it went live? Like from Early Access? If you did, maybe when they merged over the new files once the game went live, some of them maybe just got messed up.

I sure there something was changed in textures compression since EA. On my first launch i got blue textures but after game verification it's stops. But i still got some rare texture glitches sometimes like you, OP (my setup is 3070ti, i7-11700k). May be it's because of hdd and the real-time decompression require more time, i am not sure.
It's 100% not a spec problem and looks like as game engine bug or something.
