You can skip 3 of the umbral gem trials in shar's temple

You only need to grab the first gem to slot into the elevator.

Then go to the end of the passage which contains the other trial areas, ignoring each of those hallways - all the way to the locked gates with the big room with the 6 dark justiciar dudes inside. Teleport through the gates, kill the justiciars.

Locate and press the 4 buttons (disarming the traps first if you want)

Go in the inner gate area and walk up to the back wall. Now rotate your camera around so you are looking at the blackness behind the wall (actually a secret opening wall) and you should be able to clip through the wall by clicking on the other side of it to move and holding left click. When I did it, my guy just kind of vibrated around on the wall for a bit then popped through to the other side. On the other side is the dais holding the spear.

Once you have the spear you can return to the elevator, take that down to the lower level with the final door and the altar where you would normally insert the 3 gems. Run up to the door, rotate camera around and misty step to the other side. Pull the lever to open the door and let your other party members in.

Now just walk into the water and you'll be transported to the other dimension where you make the choice to either kill the nightsong or not. The end

For the last door that requires 3 gems you can also use the knock spell to unlock it. I actually ended up having to do that because a mod was glitching the altar to not recognize that I had inserted the gems (visually it appeared as if I had only inserted one gem despite putting all 3 in and them no longer being in my inventory).

Do you actually even need to get the spear before going into the Shadowfell? I came across it beforehand so I'm not sure.

The spear is only required if you plan to become a Dark Justiciar.

That said, I don't believe finding a way to get past the doors without the orbs should be considered cheesey or glitchy, since if you're playing a character who is considered an enemy of Shar, then of course you would have reservations about having to complete her trials. Even if it is connected with the main quest.
