TOTK is miles better than BG3

Year still has a LOT of strong releases and I highly doubt TOTK will get it. Hogwart's legacy had a huge uproar as well, don't forget about that gem. If starfield is as good as people are hoping, it will easily take the crown.

First, the story of Baldur's Gate 3 is better, there's no real argument here. Literally, the "story" of TOTK consists of short cutscenes here and there. They don't contribute anything profound either. In my opinion, the story of Skyward Sword and Twilight princess was much more engaging and relevant.

Second, the fusion of mechanics borrowed from Garry's Mod, along with a classic combat system that almost every game has (dodge, parry, swing the sword), certainly works well. But honestly, they are different games and genres, and Baldur's Gate also has its own "think outside the box" mechanics. At this point, I find them tied.

Third, I must admit that the world of TOTK is beautiful and enjoyable to explore, but sooner or later, you realize that it's an excuse to fill the whole damn map with collectibles (Koroks, temples, "help me place this sign" missions, etc.) and thus artificially lengthen the game, which becomes incredibly tedious.
The world of Baldur's Gate is equally beautiful, and it has a plethora of secrets; however, it is much smaller and doesn't strive to extend the game through questionable practices. can understand that this point might be subjective to the player's preference. So, I'll say it's a tie. But honestly, I personally don't like it when games are artificially extended.

In conclusion, Baldur's Gate 3 is slightly better than TOTK. Although, as I mentioned, they are completely different games, both in terms of target audience and production level.

As someone who owns and loves both games, they are appealing (depending on what you do and don't enjoy of course) for entirely different reasons. I would say I find TotK to be a more impressive work of software engineering, UX, and design though. And a lot of developers in the industry seem to agree. This game is impressive and enthralling to me for entirely different reasons, and if anything, its optimization, UX, design, etc. are probably the things I like least about it. It's possible to praise and enjoy both games. They aren't really comparable in terms of what they're trying to do.

And i would say the complete opposite... for me Zelda becomes very fast very boring... and now? The only thing we can say.... different people like different games... so dont say its better because of your OWN opinion and merits in Gaming... the lack of structure ensures that none of the puzzles or encounters can ever actually force the player to use any of the myriad options the game provides, and inevitably the vast majority of situations can all be "solved" with the same solution.

Couldn't get past the 20 fps in TOTK.

Plus it felt like replaying a lot of BOTW.

Botw while novel to the franchise, is nothing new we didnt see before in other games. It was just remarkable because of Zelda's new future.

BG3 moves the genre forward, not just for the franchise or what. It does it because of the sheer choices and production value we don't get to see often in games in general anymore.

Don't take it that Zelda is lacking in production, but there is a clear distinction of the term 'production,' here.

For TOTK to get GOTY, it will have to exceed critics view on surpassing the the BOTW formular, which I don't think it did quite well enough.

I actually think BG3 has a strong chance to win if Starfield is mid.
That said, who cares, its my GOTY!
