What do you guys think? I was thinking of making an evil monk.

Too many possibilities, you have to be more specific. I just looked up a nice barbarian monk that plays pretty nicely. Str based. Level 1 start as barbarian, get 7 levels as monk of the open hand, then back to barbarian wildheart of the bear. And is basically a punching guy.

I'm gonna make a monk after finishing my first playthrough :)

Finished the game as monk yesterday, had a lot of fun. (The way of hand or whatever? Fist fighting subclass), way of 4 elements seemed fun aswell.
Levels 10-12 doesnt offer much to monk so i would advise to multiclass into rogue to thief for 2nd bonus action.

no, not unless multi-class with something else

I am currently playing through as a Human monk. Quite enjoying it but you need to get close and personal with opponents for the most advantage so helps to have Gale buff him with leap and longstrider so he can close in quickly. Amulet of misty step is a useful magic item if you can get it.

The only class I really consider to be boring is a pure rogue.

ive got several playthroughs going at the same time and in my opinion monk is the hardest class to play so far, still love it though...

Monk is very good in BG from my experience, gets even better if you plan to multiclass with another martial class like rogue/fighter/barbarian, ranger or cleric arent a bad options either if you want to get spellcasting.

Note worthy things for monk:
Monk weapons are *any* weapon you are proficient in as long as they arent heavy or two-handed, so if you want to use a warhammer or mace using your dexterity you can go right ahead

If you plan on multiclassing into rogue, it's better to take it as your first level since it gives more skill proficiencies and even though your attack uses dexterity you still need a finesse weapon for sneak attacks.
Rogue gets even more synergy by providing monk ways to dash and disengage without using ki, letting you flurry of blows more often.

Doing some research I like this idea, with tavern brawler feat. But why start as barbarian? What difference does it make?

Dex wis monk ranger, could be your lockpick and stealth guy, access to great weapon master and good trident synergy, learn hex, warp around using shadow and hiding in battle

because barbarian unarmoured defence gives you bonus to AC from constitution, so you can stay with a low wisdom and have high AC and hit points.

not much of a difference besides giving armor proficiency, which could be useful early if your unarmored defense isnt very high and gives you 4 more hp

Wait a minute both monk and barb get that same feat at level 1.

Btw what good is wisdom for monk if I'm going open hand?

You wanna go Str for Open hand monk i believe, thats why people are going Barb (starting) then building monk after level 1 barb
